NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Championship Battle Comes Into Focus At 411

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division will travel to 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN this weekend for the two race Ole Smoky Moonshine Nationals that will bring into focus the 2014 battle for the NeSmith Cup and the $20,000 Championship.

The high-banks of 411 Motor Speedway will see a 40-lap $2,000-to-win race on Friday night, followed by a 50-lap $3,000-to-win race on Saturday night around the 3/8-mile clay oval. The two races will be Rounds 4 and 5 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division season.

Several drivers that participated in the first three events last month at Golden Isle Speedway in Brunswick, GA are not planning on running the full NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season, but are currently holding top 20 spots in the series’ point standings. After the two races this weekend at 411 Motor Speedway, the 2014 battle for the NeSmith Cup will begin to take shape.

Walker Arthur of Forest, VA won NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Round 3 last month in Brunswick, GA, and is just two points out of first place in the points chase. Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN will take to his home track this weekend two points behind Arthur in the third spot.

Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL is currently fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings, but he is only 14 points behind Arthur. Chris Noah of Rainbow City, AL is currently sixth in the points chase, just two points behind Adkins, and leads the Rookie of the Year point standings.

The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL is riding tenth in the current point standings, but is only 30 points outside the point lead. Edge could very easily vault up into the Top 5 of the point standings with a pair of good finishes this weekend at 411 Motor Speedway.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN left Brunswick, GA 11th in the 2014 point standings, 32 points outside of the point lead. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee is anxious to get to 411 Motor Speedway this weekend, a track where he won two races in the same day last season. If he can repeat the double this weekend, the Chattanooga Flash is right back in the title hunt.

Other top travelers with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series expected this weekend at 411 Motor Speedway for the Ole Smoky Moonshine Nationals are Tait Davenport of Benton, KY, Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS, two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Lewisburg, TN, and Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS.

Joining Noah in chasing the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year points in 2014 are Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, Wil Herrington of Cochran, GA, Braden Mitchell of Russellville, AL, Jak Kicklighter of Savannah, GA, and Paul Jorgensen of Blackshear, GA.

Other entrants expected are Chase Washington of Houlka, MS, Jacob Anderson of Murphy, NC, Cody Martin of Christiana, TN, Ronald Dunn of Corinth, MS, Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS, Justin McRee of Woodstock, GA, Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN and the 2006 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship Runner-Up Jeff Smith of Chatsworth, GA.

The out-of-town drivers will face one of the strongest contingents of local favorites that they will see all season. Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN finished second to Johnson in one of the 411 Motor Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series races last season, and already has one win this season at 411 Motor Speedway.

Hedgecock will be joined by Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN, who has a pair of NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series wins, including the 2012 J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 at 411 Motor Speedway on his resume. Other top local favorites include Ryan King of Seymour, TN, Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN, John Cobb of Loudon, TN, Greg Martin of Oliver Springs, TN, Matt Henderson of Loudon, TN, and Jake Teague of Oliver Springs, TN.

The on track action at 411 Motor Speedway for the Ole Smoky Moonshine Nationals begins on Thursday night with an open practice. The pit gate open at 12 noon on Thursday night, with the open practice session running from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

On both Friday and Saturday, the pit gate opens at 12 noon with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6 p.m. each night, with hot laps beginning immediately after the Drivers Meeting.
