1st Annual D. Glenn Super Meltdown opens Moulton Speedway this Saturday night
Late Model Mark Pinson, Alabama ( February 18 2009 ) - Racing returns to the Northwestern area of Alabama with the 1st running of the D. Glenn Super Meltdown at Moulton Speedway this Saturday night. This race named after Hartselle, Alabama, superfan Dickie Glenn, will kick off the 2010 season at this high-banked, family owned speedplant. This early season non-points event will feature a nice $2000-to-win, $150-to-start race for Super Late Models. Owned for many years by the Crumb family and last year promoted by Bobby Carey, will have new promoter John Bates in his first year as the man at the top. Bobby Carey will stay on board as race director as will all staff from 2009. John Bates has a solid plan to keep the tradition of Moulton going in the right direction. Super Late Models will headline the weekly divisions, Late Model Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds, Modified Streets, Pure Stocks, and Mini-Stocks fill out the weekly card.
Special events throughout the year include two Super Late Model Specials on June 5th, and August 21st. The Late Model Stocks have a special event on May 1st, while the Open Wheel Modifieds have two specials. March 27th, the Modifieds have a nice $1500-to-win show along with the annual "Redneck 50" on August 14th. The Mini Sprints come to Moulton on April 24th, July 3rd, and September 4th. First year promoter John Bates has a number of division and track sponsors lined up including Kurtis Truck Parts, Schaffer Oil, Bramlett GMC/KIA, and Keith Watts Racing Engines. John is considering adding at least one, and maybe two, high-profile traveling Super Late Model Series later in the year. This high-banked, 3/8 mile red clay oval always provides high-speeds and great racing action as the track is massaged weekly by longtime speedway owner George Crumb.
The D. Glenn Super Meltdown is this Saturday, February 20th. Moulton Speedway is 3 miles east of Moulton, Alabama on County Road 184. From the East, Interstate 65, exit 310, then go 25 miles West to County Road 184 and turn left, track is 1/3 mile on your right.
