CLEVELAND's S.A.S. 'SHAMROCK' PAYING $10,000 EXPECTS HEAVY HITTERS

by Steve Hixson
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (3/2/2010) -- The Cleveland (TN) Speedway is readying for the 15th edition of the annual SHAMROCK 60, Southern All-Star event. Scheduled for Saturday night, March 13th, raceteams and fans have a little over a week to prepare to make the trip, for this big event as drivers from around the country are expected to converge on the 1/3-mile clay banked facility. This year dirt Super Late Models will be vying for a $10,000 first place prize. The Spring time event has brought the best of the best to the track since 1994 when Rex Richey took the checkers. As for most wins, Scott Bloomquist has the most SHAMROCK's in his trophy room. The Mooresburg, TN, racing superstar has three victories, which is one more than Billy Moyer, Dale McDowell and Duayne Hommel. The only local Super Late Model racer to ever claim a SHAMROCK title was Ricky Holland in 2000, when he held off McDowell for his biggest career victory. The Defending Race Champion is dirt racing icon Billy Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas.

The list of racers that could be in action at Cleveland includes the three time SHAMROCK champion Bloomquist as well as his Team Zero teammate Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN, who's a multi-Cleveland Speedway S.A.S. winner. Recent BAMA BASH two-time champion Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC should be in contention as could 2009 Cleveland/S.A.S. winner Clint Smith of Senoia, GA. The 2007 SHAMROCK winner Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC; former GOBBLER champion Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN.; Chris Wall of Holden, LA; plus many more are expected to enter the race. As for regional SLM racers looking to take the $10,000 prize, should include Randy Weaver of Crossville, Knoxville's Billy Ogle Jr. and Rick Rogers, Tommy Kerr of Rockwood, and Skip Arp of nearby Georgetown. Local area racers such as former S.A.S. Champion Jamie Perry and Kevin Gibson both of Ringgold, GA; 2009 SLM Cleveland Speedway Champion Dewayne Powell, 2009 Lucas Oil series Cleveland Speedway winner Jake Knowles, plus racers such as; Derek Ellis, Riley Hickman and Lil' John Owenby could see entrees.

The Saturday, March 13th, $10,000. to-WIN S.A.S. event will be the first of two big money events at the Cleveland Speedway in 2010. The second will come in the form of the LUCAS OIL Super Late Model touring series on Friday night, June 18th. As for the S.A.S. series their 4th and 5th events on the 2010 schedule will be contested in close proximity. Friday, March 12th the series will host a $4,000 to win race in nearby Ringgold/Chattanooga at Boyd's Speedway. The Cleveland (TN) Speedway is less than 20-miles North of Chattanooga, off I-75 in the town of Cleveland, TN. Along with the S.A.S. race, the Cleveland Speedway; LLM/Crate, A & B Hobby, Pony Stocks & FWD divisions will all be in competition. Gates open for the March 13th SHAMROCK event at 12PM in the Pits and 3PM in the Grandstands. Prices are $35 in the Pits and $20 in the Grandstands.
