Bluegrass Speedway’s 2010 Season Ready for Showtime on April 17 Bardstown, KY-March 6, 2010- Track promoters David and Anita Ferrell are set to begin their 11th season at the promotional helm of Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY as the ½ mile high-banked Nelson County racing facility begins its 16th season of dirt track sports entertainment and the 2010 season will be chock full of racing excitement for young and old alike with no less than six different sanctioning groups visiting the Central Kentucky track over the course of the 2010 racing campaign.
There will be a Test and Tune day at the track on Saturday April 10 for 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., with the 2010 racing season officially getting the green flag on Saturday evening April 17 with a full program of racing competition featuring Super Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Sportsman, and UMP Street Stocks.
The full-fendered, ground-pounding warriors of the Super Late Model division will have no less than seven extra paying money events throughout the 2010 racing season. The National All Star Racing Association will make a pair of visits to Bluegrass Speedway this season, with a stop on April 24 for the 13th Annual Spring Sizzler, paying $3,000 to win, and again on July 10 for the 12th Annual Kentuckiana Klash, with that event paying $5,000 to win. On May 8, the World of Outlaws Late Model tour will make its first ever visit to Bluegrass Speedway for the 8th Annual My Old Kentucky Home Shootout, with the winner’s portion of the purse being $10,000. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will again return to Bluegrass Speedway for the track’s benchmark event, the 10th Annual Bluegrass Classic, with yet another big purse that will see the winner carry home $10,000 for their efforts. A trio of unsanctioned events also grace the schedule with the 7th Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial event set for Memorial Day weekend on May 29 paying $2,000 to win, the 9th Annual June Jam on June 19 paying $3,000 to win, and the 12th Annual Bluegrass 50 will go as an unsanctioned event for the first time in its history on August 7, but will still pay $5,000 to win. The Super Late Models will also compete with the roofs removed from the cars during the 7th Annual Topless Terror Night on June 26. The track tire rules for the Super Late Model division for 2010 will be the same as in ’09, with it being a Hoosier Tire only rule on regular or unsanctioned event, with the tire rule being as follows: Front Tire Rule- any compound 11 x 92 Hoosier Tire; Rear Tire Rule- Hoosier LM20, 1300, 1350, LM40, 1600 and D55 (Shoulder Plated) are the only compounds that are eligible for competition. The soft compounds (LM20, 1300) must durometer 40 prior to competition, while the hard compounds (LM40, 1600, D55) must durometer 60 prior to competition. The SUPR or SAS branded Hoosier 1600 is not eligible for competition. David Webb of Nicholasville, KY was the 2009 Super Late Model track champion at Bluegrass Speedway.
The Modified division will see a revamping of sorts for the start of the new decade as the open-wheel pilots will feature sanctioning from the UMP Dirt Car organization, marking the first time that UMP has sanctioned the Modified division at Bluegrass Speedway since 1998. This will allow drivers in the Modified class to compete for state, regional, and national points in the Modified division of the UMP Dirt Car organization provided they are a member of UMP. A pair of extra paying open-wheel events will take place in 2010 and will be sanctioned under the auspices of the newly formed American Modified Series, which will also allow drivers to earn UMP points as well. The 10th Annual Mod Squad Bash will take place on May 15 and pay the winner $1,500, while the money will be doubled for the 10th Annual Bluegrass Rumble on Saturday July 24 as the winner will take home $3,000 that evening. The UMP Modifieds will also be sporting the convertible look for the 7th Annual Topless Terror Night on June 26. The tire rule for the UMP Modified division will be as follows: The Hoosier tire compounds of A40 and/or H40 are the only legal tire compounds and must be used on the front and rear of the Modified race cars. The D40 compound will not be permitted in action in regular shows or unsanctioned events. Randy Turpin of Benji Lee of Loretto, KY was the 2009 Modified track champion at Bluegrass Speedway.
The Sportsman division will return for competition again in 2010 with their always competitive style of action, but will also fall under the UMP Dirt Car sanctioning body. Bluegrass Speedway track rules will apply to the division, with drivers in this division eligible for state and national points, as long as they are a UMP member. The 2010 racing schedule will feature a pair of extra paying to win events for this division as well. The top event for the UMP Sportsman division at Bluegrass Speedway will be on June 5 as the 7th Annual Shorty Gardner Memorial takes place with the winner walking away with $500. The UMP Sportsman division will also be highlighted during the 2010 Season Finale on September 25 in a $400 to win event. The tire rule for the UMP Sportsman division is as follows: If a racer chooses to run a street tire, the following pertains to the sizes on the street tires- 255 x 60 x 15 maximum (60 minimum); If a racer chooses to use a racing tire, it is Hoosier Tires only, with the Open Wheel Modified A40 and H40 compounds the only tire compounds eligible. Pat Hagan of New Haven, KY was the 2009 Sportsman track champion at Bluegrass Speedway.
The Street Stock division also returns for another season of side-by-side, close quarters competition in 2010 as this division seems to always produce some of the most exciting feature event finishes on almost a weekly basis. The Street Stock division will also be under the sanctioning auspices of the UMP Dirt Car group, with these drivers also eligible to earn UMP state and national points as long as they are a UMP member. Bluegrass Speedway track rules will apply in this division as well. There will be two extra paying to win event for the UMP Street Stock class in 2010, as the first one will take place on May 22 for $300 to win, with another $300 to win special for the UMP Street Stocks set for September 18. The tire rule for the UMP Street Stock divisions is as follows: Street tires only with a 255 X 70 X 15 DOT maximum; No racing tires allowed. Johnny Cecil of Bardstown, KY was the 2009 Street Stock track champion at Bluegrass Speedway.
Also, the American Sprint Car Tour will visit the high banks of Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday May 22 as the Indiana based Non-Wing Sprint Car tour will bring all steel-block horsepower to the Nelson County speedplant. A twist to the track points will also take place on two different occasions as well, as on Topless Terror Night on June 26 and on August 14, all racers in all divisions that are signed in to compete and make the A-Main in their respective divisions will receive first place track points on those two evenings of competition.
Bluegrass Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven Road at the intersection of Kentucky Highway 31-E and exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins (Bluegrass) Parkway.
