FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

$25,000 to win Commonwealth 100 and World of Outlaws Late Models just two weeks away

Jamaica, VA – The biggest show in the history of Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is just a mere two weeks away. Anticipation for the inaugural World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned Commonwealth 100 is only matched by the brisk ticket sales from nineteen different states and Canada.

For the very first time the gorgeous half-mile oval will boast a dirt Late Model mega-event to match its stature. This two day event will be the largest short track event in the State.

A $25,000 prize is earmarked for the winner of the two-day blockbuster, which will offer a cash purse totaling over $125,000. The Commonwealth 100 will pay $2,000 to start, and a 30-lap Rumble on the River Non-Qualifiers’ Race will boast a $3,000 first-place award from a purse of nearly $16,000.

“We feel it’s time for us to step up to the plate and offer to run the biggest show in the history of Virginia Motor Speedway,” said track owner Bill Sawyer, who is in his 11th season at the helm of the dirt-track showplace. “We have a premier facility and we want to create a premier event that showcases our track and State to fans and race teams from across the country. It is amazing to see that fans from nineteen different states and Canada have already chosen to make this a must see event by purchasing advance tickets.”

Heading the entry list of drivers expected to compete are current point leader and defending Champion Josh Richards, 2008 Champion Darrell Lanigan, 2007 Champion Steve Francis, 2006 Champion Tim McCreadie, 2006 winner Rick Eckert, 2005 winner Clint Smith, Shane Clanton, Chub Frank, 2007 Rookie of the Year Tim Fuller, 2008 Rookie of the Year Vic Coffey, 2007 Virginia Motor Speedway Victory Lap Late Model Champion and 2010 Outlaw Rookie of the Year candidate Austin Hubbard and the rest of the Outlaw contingent.

Some of the top national and regional racers with the VMS event on their schedules are defending race winner Chris Madden, 2008 winner Jeremy Miller, 2007 winner Shannon Babb, 4-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champion Earl Pearson Jr., 3-time MACS Champion Jason Covert, Jimmy Owens, Doug Horton and a host of others.

“The list of drivers that are going to be competing in the Commonwealth 100 keeps growing every day and is a who’s who of national and regional talent, this could be the most competitive field in years at our speedway, we are extremely excited about the possibilities,” added Sawyer about the level of competition headed to VMS next weekend.

The Commonwealth 100 weekend kicks off on Fri., April 16, with WoO LMS time trials and heat races, while B-Mains, a 30-lap Non-Qualifiers’ Race and the headline 100-lapper take center stage on Sat., April 17. A raindate of Sun., April 18, has been established for the event.

Competitor gates for Friday April 16th and Saturday April 17th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. There will be a BB&T “Meet and Greet” with the Outlaws drivers from 5 – 6pm on Saturday April 17th. On track activities will begin both days about 6:30pm with hot laps.
