NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR APRIL 5

CARTERSVILLE, GA – After the opening week of the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL leads the East Region point standings and the defending and three-time champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS leads the West Region point standings in quest of his fourth title in five years.

Edge put together a pair of second-place finishes on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL driving the Edge’s Gas Chevrolet to accumulate 88 points.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL drove the D&K Truck Service GRT to his first career win on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Gauldin passed early race leader Red Farmer of Hueytown, AL on lap six of the 20-lap main event, and led the rest of the way. Gauldin is in a five-way tie for the second spot with 50 points.

Shep Lucas of McKenzie, AL topped an 18-car field to take the 50-point win at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL on Saturday night. Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet World Championship Race winner Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN was the 50-point winner on Saturday night at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN in the Gantte Appraisals Insurance Chevrolet.

Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL took the 50-point victory on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway driving the Bennett Logging Rocket. NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point leader Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA took the 50-point season opener over a 16-car field in front of a packed house on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA driving the Turner Excavating DWB.

Todd Watson of Alpine, AL is tied for the seventh spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL, Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN, and Guy Robinson, all with 49 points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action during Week 1, Jeff Landrum of Penton, AL took the win on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and Billy Franklin of Calera, AL was the winner on Saturday night at Shelby County Speedway in Wilsonville, AL in the Franklin Enterprises Trak-Star.

Keeton opened up the season with a win on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and followed that up with a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. Keeton is on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 97 points.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is second in the West Region standings with 90 points, and Jamey Smith of Purvis, MS is third with 83 points. Michael Williams is fourth with 81 points, and Brian Foy is fifth with 80 points.

Justin McRee of Cuba, AL drove the Century Carriers, Inc. Trak-Star to victory on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park, and is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 50 points. Cliff Williams of Star, MS is seventh with 49 points driving the Ware Construction Trak-Star.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS is tied for the eighth spot with Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS in the Billy Riels Racing GRT. Each driver has 48 points. Ashley Stockstill of Purvis, MS rounds out the top ten in the West Region standings with 47 points driving the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action on Saturday night, Jeff Danos was the winner at A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA, and Shane Barbara took the victory at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS. Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS was rained out.
