BOYD’s SPEEDWAY / VOLUNTEER RACING SERIES: At a Glance

WHO
• The BOYD’s SPEEDWAY in Chattanooga/Ringgold and the Volunteer Racing Series will sanction this dirt Super Late Model racing event. Tennessee raceteam owner Mike Kittrell and racer J.J. Templeton join PR Director Chris Tilley as founders of this new touring series. Track owners Richard & Robert Harvey (along with GM Gar Dickson) have quickly (since late 2007) placed this GrandDaddy of a dirt track back on his feet, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations.
WHAT
• The BOYD’s SPEEDWAY in it’s 58th season will host the inaugural Volunteer Racing Series event, The E.A. Boyd Anniversary Classic in honor of track builder E.A. Boyd whom built the track in 1951. It will be the first event to tribute the tracks late founder and will be the VRS first ever sanctioned race. Many Super Late Model racers from around the region will be vying for the over $13,000 purse, that pays $3,000 to the winner of the 40 lap feature.
WHEN
• On Friday night April 16th, 2010 the BOYD’s SPEEDWAY, will open the pit gates at 3PM EST, with general admission grandstand gates opening at 5PM. Racing is set to begin for 6:30PM with Hot Laps Practice for All Divisions. Shortly after 7PM SLM Qualifying and Heat Races will begin.
WHERE
• BOYD’s SPEEDWAY is located on the Tennessee/Georgia stateline near Chattanooga, TN. Coming from I-75 Exit #1 in Tennessee is East Ridge. Take Hwy 41 (Ringgold Rd) South towards Georgia turning right onto Scruggs Rd at the 2nd traffic light. The tracks entrance is a block on the right.
TICKETS
• On Friday, April 16th, adult tickets will be $15, with children ages 7-12 just $5, and kids 6-under will be admitted free. Pit Passes will be $30
PRE-RACE
• Concession Stands serving a variety of Coca-Cola Products opens up shortly after 5PM. The Racin’ with Rex Souvenir Trailer opens just prior to the main gate opening. Driver sign-in for local classes will be held at the Pit Gate, while VRS registration and entry will take place at the Pit Concession behind the Pit Grandstands. A 6:15PM Drivers Meeting will be called for all drivers to be held at the Pit Grandstand area.

• BOYD’s SPEEDWAY is a clay-banked sweeping 1/3-mile oval. The dirt SLM track record of 13.320 seconds was established May 22nd, 2009 by Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN. The record car-count for SLM’s is 52 set on Oct. 10th 2008. Closest SLM finish was on Aug. 7th 2009 when Randy Weaver Passed Ronnie Johnson under the flagstand by mere inches for the win.
