311 Fastrack to round out the doubleheader weekend
By: Alex Cummings Wingate, NC. The stars of the Carolina Clash are getting ready for their 2nd trip to 311 Fastrack this season. The first race of the season at 311 saw Austin Dillon bringing home the win while holding off a late race charge by Ricky Weeks. Fast time was set by Ricky Weeks with Austin Dillon in a close second after qualifying. This Saturday’s show will be another 40 lap feature paying a cool $4,000 to win. Keep in mind, Saturday’s race at 311 Fastrack will the second race of the weekend, with the Carolina Clash racing at Cleveland County Speedway on Friday night which is also paying $4,000 to win. With back to back $4,000 to win shows, who knows who can and will show up for the $8,000 weekend.
With 35 cars in attendance at the last race, 311 Fastrack has had the largest car count for any track during the short 2010 season. Last season also saw the Carolina Clash average nearly 35 cars at each appearance at 311 which was the highest average for any track in 2009.
If the last race was any indication of how great of a show the drivers in the Carolina Clash series put on, then this race will be no different. During the first appearance at 311, the fans got to witness 2 and 3 wide racing during all three heat races and the 40 lap feature. Chris Ferguson made a late race charge after getting a flat tire while running in the top five. Ferguson restarted the race in the 21st position and by lap 16 he was already running in the 9th position. In just 5 laps, Ferguson was able to pass 12 cars utilizing both the high and low sides of the ultra fast 311 speedway. 311 Fastrack is not called the “Daytona of Dirt” for no reason and Ferguson showed everyone in attendance that there were multiple racing grooves around the ultra fast, high banked, half mile.
After three races so far this season, Dean Bowen is running away with the championship thus far with 2 wins, one on opening night at Carolina Speedway for the Skyler Trull Memorial and one at Fayetteville. With momentum in his favor, the sky is the limit for Bowen who is having the dream season. 2nd in points is Dennis “Rambo” Franklin, 3rd is Ricky Weeks, 4th is Jeff Smith, and 5th is Chris Ferguson. With just 53 points separating the top 5 in points, the doubleheader weekend could cause some jumbling up of the points.
Along with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series, 311 Fastrack will have the NDRA Crate Late Models, the Limited Sportsmen, and U-Car divisions all in action Saturday night. Pit gates open at 3pm, grandstands open at 5pm, and the racing action gets underway at 6pm sharp.
Please make plans to come join us for the blockbuster weekend and you will not be disappointed.
