S.A.S. RETURN to CLEVELAND 'TENN MEMORIAL RACE' PAYING $5,000 - The BOYZ 'R BACK... MAY 22nd

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (3/2/2010) -- The BOYZ 'R BACK... and the Cleveland (TN) Speedway will again be the place to watch the best in the region compete for over $20,000 in winnings. The 33rd edition of the annual TENN. MEMORIAL RACE presented by Coca-Cola will be Southern All-Star sanctioned (as always) and is scheduled for Saturday night, May 22nd, a full week (again as always) prior to Memorial Day weekend. Raceteams and fans have a little over a week to prepare, for this big event as drivers from around the region are expected to converge on the 1/3-mile clay banked facility. Dirt Super Late Models will be vying for a $5,000 first place prize, which brings out the best of the best to the track every season. As for the history of the race, locals Lamar Scoggins and Kevin Gibson took home top honors in the late 90's. Since the modern Millenium era Clint Smith (of Senoia, GA) and Jimmy Owens (of Newport, TN) have both won the race twice. Dale McDowell, Jonathan Davenport and Shane Clanton have all won the event in the most recent decade. Coming into the weekend event Randy Weaver holds the current 2009 TENN. MEMORIAL title winning the 50 lapper last May.

The list of racers that could be in action at Cleveland includes the five time DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPION; Freddy Smith (of Seymour, TN) as well as former East Tennessee teammate Skip Arp (of nearby Georgetown, TN) who's a multi-Cleveland Speedway and S.A.S winner. Current World of Outlaw Late Model series competitor and Cleveland/S.A.S winner CATDADDY Clint Smith could be in the house, where he came from 14th place to take the JEAN JOHNSON MEMORIAL race less than a year ago. The defending GOBBLER champ Chris SMOKEY Madden (of Gaffney, SC); and 2008 GOBBLER champ THE GEORGIA GIANT Shane Clanton plus many more could be expected to enter the race. As for regional SLM racers looking to take the $5,000 prize, should include defending race champion Weaver, Knoxville's Billy Ogle Jr. and Rick Rogers, Tommy Kerr (of Rockwood), and former S.A.S. Champion Jamie Perry. Local competitors Jake Knowles, Keith SHORTY Frazier, Todd Morrow, BADD Brad Coffey, Riley Hickman and many more could see entrees also.

Saturday, May 22nd kicks off a rich Dirt SLM summer at Cleveland Speedway with the first of 5 events with a variety of sanctionings. Thursday night June 17th, the $10,000. to-WIN special RACE FOR THE CURE event is slated with LUCAS OIL series making its 2nd ever race at Cleveland Speedway. The S.A.S. series returns for their 3rd race of the 2010 schedule with this mid-July $5,000 to-WIN JEAN JOHNSON MEMORIAL just 5-days before Ray Cook's Southern Nationals invades on Thursday night; July 22nd for a $3,500 special event. The Southern Regional Racing series wraps up the Summer of Thunder at Cleveland Speedway with the a $3,000 to-WIN DOUBLE TROUBLE weekend (with nearby Boyd's Speedway) August 6th & 7th. The Cleveland (TN) Speedway is less than 20-miles North of Chattanooga, off I-75 in the town of Cleveland, TN. Along with the S.A.S. race, the Cleveland Speedway; LLM/Crate, A & B Hobby, Pony Stocks & FWD divisions will all be in competition. Gates open for the May 22nd TENN. MEMORIAL RACE event at 4PM in the Pits and 5PM in the Grandstands. Prices are $30 in the Pits and $17 in the Grandstands.

RACE STARTING FIELD: 24 Cars Start, Qualifying (Best of 2 Laps), Heats: 10 Laps,
"B" Main Last Chance: 12 Laps + 2 Series Provisionals determined by 2010 S.A.S. points.
