The Carolina Clash SLM Series makes its inaugural visit to Dublin SpeedwayBy: Alex Cummings
Wingate, NC. June 23, 2010. The stars of the Carolina Clash SLM Series are looking forward to their first ever visit to Dublin Speedway this Saturday, June 26. “I’m eager for this Saturday night’s visit to Dublin” said Larry Lee, owner of the Carolina Clash. “Dublin always produces amazing 2 and 3 wide racing, lap after lap”. Randy Gyton has worked very hard to resurrect the track and the improvements will be noticeable this Saturday evening at the 4/10 mile, semi banked, clay oval which is located just 27 miles from Fayetteville.
Dublin Speedway has run Super Late Models for a few years with Travis Hair taking the crown in both 2005 and 2009. Dean Bowen won the championship in 2006 followed by David Taylor in 2007, and Shawn Beasley in 2008. All of the past champions at Dublin are regulars in the Carolina Clash Series this year which will give them a little hometown advantage over the rest of the field of cars.
Currently Dean Bowen is leading the Steel Head Late Model points at Dublin with 3 wins on the season already. With Super Late Models being taken off the card this season, the Steel Head class is now top dog at Dublin. With Dean Bowen being the hometown favorite, a past Super Late Model Champion, and already 3 wins in Dublin’s premier division, Bowen will be going into this Saturday night’s race as the favorite to win. Bowen currently sits 4th in Carolina Clash points with 2 wins on the season and is currently leading the Rookie of the Year points. The momentum is in his favor and he’s on a hot streak, it’s the perfect storm all descending onto his home track this Saturday.
Dennis “Rambo” Franklin currently sits atop the point standings followed closely by Chris Ferguson in second and Ricky Weeks in third. The top 3 in points are separated by just 5 points heading into Dublin. It’s a neck and neck race for the top 3 spots with every position being the difference between 1st and 3rd in points. 4th in points currently is Dean Bowen and Jeff Smith rounds out your top 5 in Carolina Clash points.
Can one of the past champions at Dublin show the rest of the Carolina Clash superstars around the track? Or will a first time winner come out on top after all is said and done in the first ever appearance at Dublin for the Carolina Clash? You will have to be there to see. Please make plans to come join us this Saturday evening at Dublin Speedway as the best of the best in super late model racing that the southeast has to offer, descend onto Dublin for the first ever time with the Carolina Clash.
