FASTRAK NORTHEAST LATE MODEL TOURING SERIES JOINS UP WITH WORLD OF OUTLAWS WEDNESDAY AT SHARON
By Mike Leone Hartford, OH…After a week and a half layoff, the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will resume action this Wednesday night, July 28 at Sharon Speedway for race #11 of 20 on the 2010 slate. It’ll be the second of three races in 2010 at the beautiful Hartford, Ohio facility.
Wednesday’s event will be highlighted by a 25-lap feature paying $1,200 to-win. Provided there are 30 cars or more, the “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series program will continue with a non-qualifiers race paying added money and points. Butch Lambert and Dan Karalagas have won these events at West Virginia and Tri-City Speedways to be tied for the point lead.
“We have to thank Sharon Speedway and GM Dave Willoughby for hosting FASTRAK events,” stated Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Wednesday should be a great event for Late Model fans as we’ll be joined in with the World of Outlaws. Sharon hosted two Touring events last season and bumped that up to three along with another three weekly events. All of the past three events have been successful with great fields of cars and tremendous racing.”
As the second half of the season begins, there have been seven different winners in 10 events. A total of 132 different drivers have competed to date with the average car count at nearly 34.
Max Blair enters Wednesday not only leading the Northeast Touring Series, but also the National Weekly Series points looking to pull off the double like he did in 2008. The Centerville, Pa. 20-year-old has victories at Tyler County (WV) and Expo (OH) to date and has a commanding 52-point lead on nemesis Mike Pegher, Jr., who won the first ever Touring Series event held at Sharon in 2010.
David Scott, who is fresh off his first Touring Series victory of 2010 in the last event at Tri-City (PA), won last year’s Touring Series finale at Sharon and has climbed to ninth in points. The Garland, Pa. veteran is the defending Touring Series champion, but has missed a couple of events to campaign his Super Late Model ride.
One driver looking forward to Wednesday night is Butch Lambert. After failing to qualify for the opening event at Tyler County and coming home only 15th in the second, the Mars, Pa. driver has really turned around his season working his way up to third in points just nine behind Pegher. Lambert started the turnaround with a second at the opening Sharon event and has only finished outside the top 12 once since that time and that was at the $10,000 to-win National event at West Virginia Motor Speedway. During that time he also recorded a second at Roaring Knob, a third at Expo, and a fourth at Tri-City.
There have been 44 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 20 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series. Blair currently sits atop the all-time win list at seven followed by Pegher with six, Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and Davis Scott with four, Alan Dellinger with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Blose, Holtgraver, Robbie Blair, and Jonathan Davenport with one victory.
