NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 24 PREVIEW – GUNFIGHT IN THE WILD WEST

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Two NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region tracks have added double feature events to their schedules during the next four weeks, which brings two drivers back into the championship hunt along with point leader Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS and defending and three-time West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS and Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL are back in the championship point chase along with Stokes and Keeton. With 50 point victories in the coming weeks, Stokes, Keeton and McRee have the opportunity to post “perfect seasons” by earning 950 points that includes 16 50-point wins and 150 Regional bonus points.

Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will present double feature races this Saturday night in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region competition. Looking ahead, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS will have double features on September 25, and Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will have double feature features on the final week of the season on October 2.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action in Week 24, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park will open the competition this Friday night. This Saturday night, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL will return to West Region action. Another West Region Saturday night event will also be held at Greenville Speedway.

Stokes leads the West Region standings with 943 points based on his best 16 finishes and includes 150 bonus points for competing in six NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events. Stokes needs to net seven more points by replacing his worst point total in his best 16 finishes with a higher one.

Going into Week 24 competition, Stokes will have to finish second or better in an event with eight or more cars to net points. After that, Stokes will have another 48-point third-place finish to net on, and then he must win three races to net the three 49-point second-place finishes that currently make up his best 16 of his 26 starts to date to reach a perfect point total of 950.

Keeton is currently second in the West Region standings, just four points behind Stokes, with 939 points based on his best 16 finishes in 26 starts. Keeton picked up 50 bonus points last weekend by competing in NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring events at Whynot Motorsports Park and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Starting this weekend, Keeton will be trying to net on three 48-point third-place finishes and five 49-point second-place finishes to reach the 950-point mark. According to the West Region tracks’ schedule of events, a driver can still compete in eight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region events before the end of the season.

That means Stokes would have to win five of the eight remaining races to capture a perfect score, and Keeton would have to win all eight races available to him to get a perfect score. McRee is another driver that would have to win out in all eight races to get a perfect score. McRee is back in the 11th spot of the West Region standings, but he has only competed in 13 events.

McRee has 779 points that includes 150 bonus points and can still earn full points in three more West Region events before he begins netting points. Three wins would give J-Mac 929 points, and then he would try to net on a 41, a 44, a 46 and two 49s with five more wins to bring is total to a perfect 950.

Williams is currently ninth in the West Region standings with 799 points that includes 150 bonus points in 14 starts. Although Williams can’t capture a perfect score, he can earn 100 points with wins in his next two starts, and then begin netting on a 25, two 41s, a 47 and two 49s with wins in his next six starts to bring his total up to 947.

Although Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL has clinched the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Championship, the battle for second and third is still close. Second-place pays $1,000 and third-place pays $500 at the end of the season in Regional point fund money.

A driver can compete in a possible three more East Region events according to track web sites in next four weeks before the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season ends on October 3.

Week 24 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action this Saturday night will be held at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, and at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA.

Ryan King of Anniston, AL is currently second in the East Region standing with 862 points based on his best 16 finishes in 23 starts. “Flyin’ Ryan” can net up to a total of 881 points if he wins his next three starts. Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL is third with 851 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts, and can net up to a total of 875 points with wins in his next three starts.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is fourth with 850 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts, and can net up to a total of 870 points with wins in his next three starts. Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL is fifth with 848 points, but can climb into the second spot in his next start, as he only has 15 starts and can still earn full points in his next start.

A win for Nowell in his next start would give him 898 points, and just a start in the next feature would earn the “Phenix City Assassin” 41 points and a total of 889 points, which would clinch the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region. With three straight wins, Nowell could earn a possible 913 points.
