NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 25 PREVIEWCARTERSVILLE, GA – With three weeks left in the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, there are still seven drivers competing for points fund paying positions in both the West and East Regions. Their recipes for success are quite simple – win races.
Four drivers are still alive in the West Region championship hunt, as well as the top three spots in the point standings, and three drivers are competing for the third spot in the East Region. The Region Champions receive $1,500 and a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, the runners-up in each Region receive $1,000, and the third-place drivers get $500.
Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 945 points based on his best 16 finishes, and has to win four out of the five remaining races with car counts of eight or more to post a perfect score on 950. A perfect score is based on 16 50-point wins and 150 bonus points for competing in six NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events.
Stokes is trying to net points by replacing the lowest event point total among his best 16 finishes to date with a higher one. Stokes will be trying to net on a 48-point third-place finish, and three 49-point second-place finishes to obtain a perfect score. If Stokes wins two races and nets three more points, he will clinch the championship.
Three-time and defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS is second in the West Region standings with 940 points, just five points behind Stokes. Keeton has to win the remaining five remaining races on the West Region schedule to have a chance to win his fourth West Region title.
Keeton is trying to net on two 48s and three 49s to reach the 947 point mark. Another driver that can reach the 947 point mark with five more 50-point wins is the third-place driver in the West Region standings, Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL.
McRee has 918 points and his five lowest point totals that he will be trying to net on are two 41s, a 44, a 46, and a 49. The fourth-place driver Cliff Williams is still in the running for a top three points fund paying position, as he has 896 points. If Williams can close out the season with five straight wins, he has the potential to post 945 points.
Williams, who just reached the 16 race mark, will now begin to net points and his five lowest point totals are a 25, two 41s, and 2 47s. If Stokes, Keeton, McRee, or Williams were to tie each other for any of the top three spots, the tie-breaker would be number of wins, and then the number of second-place finishes, and so on.
Week 25 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region events will all be held this Saturday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.
Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL has clinched the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Championship, and Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL has clinched the East
Region Runner-Up spot.
Ryan King of Anniston, AL, Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL and Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL are battling for the third spot in the East Region with two possible races remaining in the 2010 East Region schedule for each driver according the track web sites.
King is currently in the third spot in the East Region standings with 862 points based on his best 16 finishes. King will be trying to net points off a 43-point eighth-place finish and a 44-point seventh-place finish in his next two starts. Two 50-point wins for King would bring his season total up to 875 points. King is still looking for his first win of the season.
Huss is fourth in the East Region standings with 851 points based on his best 16 finishes. Huss will be looking to net on a 38-point third-place finish in a field of less than eight cars and a 43-point eighth-place finish in his next two starts. Two 50-point wins by Huss would give him a season total of 870 points.
Maher is fifth in the East Region standings with 850 points based on his best 16 finishes. Maher will be looking to net on a 40-point win in a field of less than eight cars and a 41-point finish for placing tenth or worse in his next two starts. Two 50-point wins for Maher would give him a season total of 869 points.
Huss and Maher have been competing with each other all season long at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, and are scheduled to head-to-head once again this Saturday night in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action. Huss has three wins this season and Maher has five wins this season.
NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Week 25 action will also be held this Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA and at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
