Briggs Wins Big at ‘The Rock’ and Central PA, Claims First ULMS Championship

Bear Lake, PA (October 4, 2010) Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs of Bear Lake, PA hasn’t had a weekend like this past weekend in a long time, April of 2009 to be exact. A weekend where the stars lined up just right and Boom’s Meridien Hardwoods, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, Horton Equipment, Asel Enterprises, Briggs Transport, Tony Stec Lumber, Chub Frank Racing, CJ’s Auto Transport sponsored 99B Rocket Chassis didn’t need one turn of a wrench while he collected $7,500 after winning the ‘Big Kahuna X’ at Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD and the ‘Topless 30’ at Central PA Speedway and capturing his first United Late Model Series (ULMS) Championship title.

On Saturday, October 2, ‘The Rock’, Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD held the Unified Force Race Championship (UFO) sanctioned, $5,000 to win ‘Big Kahuna X’ where Briggs would win his heat and draw the outside pole for the 44 lap feature event. Boom took the lead from the start and was never seriously challenged for the lead as he led every lap to win his first ‘Big Kahuna’ and first UFO sanctioned event. On Sunday, ‘The Bear Lake Banzai’ made his way to Clearfield, PA and Central PA Speedway for the final event of the year for the ULMS series. After dominating his heat race, Briggs would make the pass on Bump Hedman for the lead after eight laps and go on to win his second extra money event in as many days and claim his first ULMS Championship.

‘The biggest thing for us this weekend was luck, we had good pill draws which put us up front each night,’ Boom said via cell phone. ‘I mean, the car was great all weekend too but, to get good draws really helped. We’ve been struggling real bad the past few months but my guys have been working hard to get this car going fast again, most of the credit goes to them. A few weeks ago at Pittsburgh (PPMS) both Mark and Josh Richards (from Rocket Chassis) helped us out with a few different things; we realized that the worse we ran, the more we changed on the car,’ Briggs continued. ‘We went back to the basics and all the sudden we were fast again. We didn’t change the car at all, all weekend. This says a lot considering Cumberland and Clearfield are two totally different tracks…when the car is good, it’s good. Everything just came together for us this weekend.’

Boom and the BBR Racing team have tentative plans on heading to ‘The Ultimate’ at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA on Friday and Saturday, October 8 & 9. Friday will feature an unsanctioned $2,000 to-win event while Saturday will have the UFO sanctioned $5,000 to-win finale. Then on Saturday, October 30 the BBR Racing team will head to K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, OH for the $5,000 ‘Trick or Treat Topless 50’. The event will be the final O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series (ASLMS) of the 2010 season. Check www.boombriggs.com for any additions to the schedule.
