20 YEARS LATER... GRANT ADCOX MEMORIAL SET FOR SATURDAY AT CLEVELAND SPEEDWAY

Cleveland, TN (10/13/10) – The Cleveland (TN) Speedway is gearing up for the 20th edition of the GRANT ADCOX MEMORIAL race, this Saturday night, October 16, 2010. The $4,000 to-WIN / 40 lapper, will again be sanctioned by the Southern Regional Racing series and is expected to draw a large contingent of Tennessee racers, as well as Super Late Model raceteams out of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. The late Adcox, a native from Chattanooga, made it to the NASCAR big leagues before his untimely death at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on November 19th, 1989, during the 'Atlanta Journal 500' event. Local track owner/promoter Monty Morrow brought the event to his Cleveland facility in 2004, where Scott Sexton of Pigeon Forge, TN took the checkers in the revamped format. Only one racer has repeated as winner since the venue has changed to Cleveland, TN. Dale McDowell took event wins in 2007/08, but it was Ray Cook whom took the checkers last November (as the weather pushed the event back a month). Cook is looking to re-acquainted himself with the Cleveland Speedway victory lane and its annual visit by Grant's father Herb Adcox . Other past/recent winners include; Illinois racer Randy Korte, area North Carolina ace Shawn Chastain.

With sponsorship from Chattanooga’s corporate Krystal Restaurants, Adcox took a top 5 at the WINSTON 500 in Talladega, Alabama, which was his career best NASCAR finish. Now-a-days the ARCA sportsmanship award, (H.G. ADCOX AWARD) is named in Adcox's honor and is awarded annually by his father. A full regular racing program in all divisions; LLM/Crate, A & B Hobby, Pony and FWD's are on the undercard along with the special S.R.R.S feature race. Special group qualifying is the normal format for the series that locks in a pre-determined number of fast qualifiers from their times. Athen Alabama's Anthony Burroughs holds the 2010 series championship chase lead, over Georgia's Jacob Grizzle and Tennessee’s Tony Morris. Pits will open at 4:30PM EST and the grandstands at one hour later officially. Drivers Meeting is slated for 7PM, with Hot Lap Practice scheduled to begin shortly after. Admission for the Grandstands is $15, children 6-11 are just $3 with parent admission and Pit Passes costing $30 for the event. For more information visit the tracks web-site at www.clevelandspeedway.com or call the track on raceday at (423)479-8574. Series information is available at www.southernregionalracingseries.com.
