Deer Creek Speedway honors Champions and 4-National Title Holders at Banquet

by Bill Nelson
Deer Creek Speedway and Button Buck Speedway capped off their 2010 racing season on Saturday night at the Eagles Club in Rochester with their annual awards banquet. The banquet was full with every seat taken for the nights activities. Drivers signed up for tons of door prizes as they entered the banquet fall as the sponsors again pulled out the stops and gave away a huge amount of prizes.

A great meal was held serving over 365 meals as the crowd gathered to watch the class highlight slideshows put together by Justin Queensland. As each class slideshow was played the 2nd through tenth place drivers arrived on stage to receive their track point fund and trophies.

The Altenburg Construction Late Models saw Mike Prochnow take home the track title with consistency. Prochnow did not win a race in the 2010 season but took home the title with eleven top five finishes. Prochnow finished just seven points ahead of Kelly Anderson in second. Nick Herrick, rookie Kyle Jumbeck and Doug Herrick rounded out the top five in points. Anderson also received the most improved driver for the Late Model division by virtue of taking home two wins at the speedway and finishing second in points.

The EZ Fabricating USRA Modifieds saw Jason Cummins take home his second straight track title with fourteen top five finishes on the season. Cummins was also crowned the 2010 USRA Modified National Champion. Josh Angst, Mike Sorensen, Todd Scharkey and AJ Wiste would round out the top five in the weekly points race. Darrin Walch of Iowa made the haul up to the Deer Creek Speedway for most of the events and took home the most improved driver for the modified division.

Cole Queensland repeated as the 2010 US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stock champion with eight feature wins on the season. Queensland put seventeen markers between himself and Jeff Brauer in second. Kevin Hager, Ryan Siegle and Tony Bloom rounded out the track top five. Bloom also would receive the most improved super stock driver for the 2010 season.

In the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds the Medford Monster Brandon Davis took home the track title with nine wins including a clean sweep of all three nights of the Featherlite Fall Jamboree. Davis also raced his way to the 2010 WISSOTA National Championship for the Midwest Modifieds. Davis finished ahead of Jerry Young, Bryan Hernandez, Cody Gardner and Ric Fynbo for the title. Fynbo also received the coveted most improved driver for the division during the 2010 season.

Brandon Hare took home the National Title and the 2010 Deer Creek Speedway track title in the Hinz Trucking USRA Modified division. Hare finished the season with seven wins at the speedway on his way to the championships. Hare finished ahead of Kylie Kath, Colter Duetsch, Jacob Bleess and Parker Hale on his way to the championship. In the first season at the speedway the USRA modified put on a competitive show with great car counts as this value class grabs a foothold in the area. Jacob Bleess took home the most improved driver of the season award as the young driver steadily improved each week at the speedway.

The BP WISSOTA Street Stocks were all about Danny Hanson this year in southern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Hanson took home the 2010 National title along with the track championship at the Deer Creek Speedway. Hanson took home eleven feature wins at the speedway tying the all time single season record at the speedway. Hanson faced a tough field each week besting AJ Zvorak by 56 marks. Troy Voth, Donny Ganz and Fred Prudoehl rounded out the top five in the class. Ganz took home the most improved driver of the season for the division.

On the Button Buck Speedway the Slingshots by Tobias group held racing most Saturday afternoons with three divisions of cars. These three classes again grew in participation as the slingshots become more popular as a way to move up to real race cars from go-karts. It gives the drivers a more affordable way to get into racing and working with cars with moving suspension pieces.

In the Truck Country Pee-Wee Slingshot division Jim Chisholm took home the track title ahead of Jackson Hale, Garrett Koster, Keagan Einck and Dakota Kelly. Chisholm bested the field five times during his campaign. Garrett Koster took home the most improved driver in the class for 2010

In the Truck Country Junior Slingshot division Derek Clement took home the 2010 track championship with three feature wins on the season. Clement finished ahead of Lexi Schott, Jackson Koster, Matthew Schliesman and Dustin Sorensen for the track title. Jackson Koster took home the most improved driver for 2010.

For the Senior division of the Truck Country Slingshots Jeremy Paulson bested the field. Paulson crossed the waving checker flags first six times during his campaign. Paulson finished ahead of Lexi Schott, Derek Clement, Dan Olson and Matthew Schliesman in the 2010 track championship. Paulson also took home the 2010 most improved driver for the slingshot division.

Other awards handed out for the 2010 season were;

Hard Luck Award - Brandon Vogt who tried his hand in the BP WISSOTA Street Stocks but always seemed to have bad luck on his side.

Rookie of the Year - Lucas Schott. Lucas moved up from the slingshots to the full blown USRA modifieds. Schott looked impressive and caught the eye of many national competitors making USMTS Main events at the speedway in his rookie season. Schott bested a stellar rookie class which included Mike Blowers (street stocks), Brandon Hare (USRA B-Modifieds), Cody Gardner (Midwest Modifieds) and Kyle Jumbeck (Late Models).

Sportsmanship Award for Deer Creek Speedway- Joel Alberts.
Sportsmanship Award for Button Buck Speedway - Jeremy Paulson
Button Buck Speedway Parent of the year - Monte Chisholm
