Super Bowl of Racing VII at Golden Isles Speedway Set for February 3rd-5th

Waynesville, Georgia – The seventh installment of Golden Isles Speedway’s signature event has been set for Thursday, February 3rd through Saturday, February 5th. The Super Bowl of Racing VII will feature two 50 lap Super Late Model events paying $10,000 to win each. The 2010 version saw a pair of championship winning national stars and a rising superstar each take a win. In 2011 the event format has been tapered down to 2 nights of competition to allow for better racing at the 4/10ths mile South Georgia clay oval. “This has become our biggest event of the year. It is popular among the drivers and we have had some outstanding racing the last few years. We expect much of the same at this year’s Super Bowl.” commented GIS owner / promoter Frankie Lloyd.

Another change employed for the 2011 Super Bowl will be for the first time in its history the event will be unsanctioned. However Lloyd has contracted the services of Kelley Carlton and his KELCAR Motorsports Media & Management group to oversee the event. Carlton was the Director of Competition with the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series from 2000 through 2010 and brings more than 15 years of race event management experience to the table. “Mr. Lloyd wanted to try the event unsanctioned but he wanted to provide the racers with a sense of security regarding how the event would be conducted. He and I got together and worked out a plan for my folks to officiate and handle all aspects of tech for the Super Late Models. Mr. Lloyd is a staunch opponent of chemical tire alteration so one of the first questions he had was ‘can you handle lab testing for the tires?’ said Carlton.

“Given our history and experience with tire sampling it will be no problem to manage the tire issues. We plan to take multiple samples at various times each night. The tire rule allows for any compound or brand but prohibits any chemical alterations. Most racers hate all the chemical stuff and want nothing to do with it. We want to provide them with the peace of mind that they will not have to worry about chemical tire treatments at the Super Bowl.” added Carlton. The KELCAR group plans to utilize the same Blue Ridge Laboratories that most other major sanctioning bodies have come to use. “These folks understand what we are doing and know what we need from them. They have been excellent to work with and they are very well respected in their field. We appreciate their professionalism and I am glad they are on board with us.” said Carlton.

Super Bowl VII kicks off on Thursday, February 3rd with an open practice session. Pit Gates open at 3 PM with practice schedule to begin at 6 PM. Friday, February 4th Pit Gates open at 3 PM. Hot Laps are scheduled for 5 PM with racing to follow at 6 PM. Saturday, February 5th Pit Gates open at 3 PM. Hot Laps are scheduled for 5 PM with racing to follow at 6 PM. Golden Isles has still has camping spots available with full hook-ups.
