GM CT525, Unlimited & Spec Motors Finish 1-2-3 at $10,000 to Win Bama Bash

(MARS PA) - In an event that utilized weight and spoiler variances among different motor types similar to the UFo rules set, 3 different types of motors claimed the first 3 positions at the Southern Regional Racing Series "Bama Bash" at Green Valley Speedway in Alabama on February 27. Expert racer Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN carried home $10,000 using a GM CT525 motor, almost paying for the engine in 1 win!

The very competitive 75-lap event saw the Unlimited, Spec and GM CT525 motor types take turns leading the race, with 5 lead changes among 4 drivers. When the checker flag flew, Johnson had come form the 13th starting position on the grid to take the win using the GM CT525 motor, followed by Chris Wall of Holden LA with an Unlimited motor car and William Thomas of Phenix City, AL in a Spec motor car.

The results of the "Bama Bash" prove that a multi-tier rules set in the Super Late Model class works well. While allowing race teams a full choice of motor types that best fit their budget, the variances among those motor types may be leveled out through weights and spoilers to make each engine equally competitive. The UFo Race Championship has offered the competitors the options of the Unlimited motors and the more economical Spec motor since the inception of the tour.

The GM CT525 is the newest motor option in the UFo rules set. The base motor retails for only $6,960 at Race-1 of Poland, OH. Race-1 is offering discounted shipping in a time when shipping prices are increasing. Additional items specific to the GM CT525 motor include flywheel, ignition kit, front kit, breather kit and headers and retail for approximately $1,800. The optimum carburetor for the motor costs approximately $1,200. Other external motor parts that are not specific to the GM CT 525 and a team may already have on had will cost around $2,000-$2,500.

The UFo "Chiller Thriller" at Mercer Raceway Park will kick off the 2011 Super Late Model special event season for the region. The UFo Super Late Models will compete for an increased payoff of $3,000 to win, $300 to start and $150 guaranteed tow money. This will be the initial event of the 23-race UFo 2011 tour, with over $450,000 in real cash payoffs.

This spring thaw event will not only be the 1st race on the 2011 UFo tour, it will also will be the first major Super Late Model event in the entire PA-OH-NY-WV 4-state region. With most every other area track not yet in operation for the season, a strong field of UFo Super Late Model racecrafts is expected as well as the other divisions. As Mercer features Super Late Models on a limited basis, the 3/8 mile will serve as the perfect neutral arena for the opening round of the UFo invasion. The UFo "Chiller Thriller" will be the 1st high-power race car event contested at Mercer since the track was widened at the completion of last season.

The "Chiller Thriller" will be highlighted by a 41 lap UFo Super Late Model championship paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start. Any car that does not qualify that makes 1 lap under its own power on the track will receive $150. The UFo Super Late Models will compete in a full racing program of extended-lap heat races, consolation(s) and the exciting feature event. The high-quality UFo format will be in place for all 2011 events, which consistently generates an amazing amount of clean, side-by-side racing action and passing on the track. The UEMS E-mods and Stock Cars will also be racing for a whopping $1,000 to win each feature. The Star's Mod-Lite Tour will compete in a full racing program while the 4-cylinder Mini-Stock class will round out the program.

Gates will open at 4:00 PM. Warm-ups will hit the track at 6:00 with racing at 7:00 PM. The rain date for the UFo "Chiller Thriller" will be Sunday, March 27 with times 1 hour earlier. Grandstand admission will be $15 for adults, $7 for students, $13 for Seniors and $30 for all pit passes. Mercer Raceway Park will offer their family pass for $30 to the grandstands for this event, which includes 2 parents and up to 4 kids 15 years of age and under.

UFo Super Late Model car rules will apply. Unlimited aluminum block motor cars must weigh 2,250 pounds with an 8" spoiler. Open steel block motor cars must weigh 2,200 pounds with an 8" spoiler. UFo spec motor cars will have a 2,200 pounds minimum weight limit and be permitted a 12" spoiler. GM CT525 motor cars may weigh 2,150 pounds and may use a 14" spoiler with 12" maximum height. Because the UFo "Chiller Thriller" does not include a Semi-Late type class, GM 602 and 604 motors will be permitted at this event. However cars with these motors MUST compete with a 12" to 14" rear spoiler with 12" maximum height. Transponders and RACEceivers will be required at Mercer with rentals available at the track through Precise Racing Products.

The 2010 version of the UFo "Chiller Thriller" was truly one of the amazing races of the season. Mike Knight of Ripley, NY roared from his 15th starting position to win the race after a torrid 4 and 5 car battle for the lead. 12th starting Chad Valone of Warren, PA crossed the line in 2nd, followed by 10th starting Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, PA, 18th starting Keith Barbara of South Park, PA and John Mollick of Toronto, OH, who lead a majority of the race. Competitors will find the improved, wider racing surface as one of the many track improvements that has taken place during the off-season, including newly painted grandstands and concession area upgrades.

The payoff for the UFo Super Late Models for the "Chiller Thriller" 41-lap feature at Mercer will be: 1st-$3,000 2nd-$1,400 3rd-$1,000 4th-$800 5th-$700 6th-$600 7th-$550 8th-$500 9th-$475 10th-$450 11th-$425 12th-$400 13th-$390 14th-$375 15th-$350 16th-$340 17th-$325 18th-$325 19th-$325 20th-$325 21st-$300 22nd-$300 23rd-$30024th-$300. $150 paid to all cars that DNQ that make 1 lap on the track under their own power.
