Salina Speedway Moves Opening Day to May 6; MidwestDirt.com Car Show at the Central Mall This Weekend

SALINA, Kan. -- Officials with the Salina Speedway have announced that due to the harsh winter conditions the re-opening of the storied 3/8 mile will take place a little later than expected, on Friday May 6.

With over 2 feet of snow during the winter months progress was slowed on the facelift of the facility. With a lot of work to do before the greenflag flies management felt it would be best to hold off on opening until the facility was close to 100% ready.

Those wishing for more information on the track's plans to re-open in 2011 can do so by visiting the MidwestDirt.com Race Car Show at the Salina Central Mall. A booth will be setup allowing questions and answers with the Speedway, along with a chance to register and purchase a pit stall parking spot for the season.

MidwestDirt.com Car Show at the Central Mall This Weekend

Race fans in central Kansas will get their first glimpse of race cars for the 2011 season this weekend (March 12-13) at the 2nd Annual MidwestDirt.com Race Car Show at the Mall.

The show will kick off Saturday morning when the mall opens at 10AM in Salina's Central Mall. Race Cars along with local organizations will be on display and gives the fans an inside look at some of the machines they'll see competing at area tracks this season. Saturday's show will close with the mall at 9PM. On Sunday the show will run from 12PM to 6PM.

Many different types of race cars are scheduled to be in attendance. Jeremy Petty, a local ARCA driver who has taken on tracks such as Daytona and Talladega, will have his ARCA car on display. Also the RevHoney Energy Drink racing team consisting of Garrett Hood's USAC Midget, Tyler Frye's IMCA Northern SportMod, and young female protege Connor Atkinson's 305 Sprint Car. Late Models representing the Midwest DIRTcar Late Model Series will also be in the mall along with the Dirt Adrenaline racing simulator to give fans the driver's seat in a fully functioning race car.

Drivers will be on display both days to sign autographs and take pictures. Join us at the mall this weekend for a preview of the 2011 season!
