FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 14, 2011
FASTRAK NORTHEAST/MOV TOURING SERIES OPENER AT TYLER COUNTY POSTPONED TO APRIL 23 DUE TO IMPENDING FORECAST
By Mike Leone
(Middlebourne, WV)…With a near 100% chance of thunderstorms officials at Tyler County Speedway made the decision on Thursday to postpone Saturday’s “Topless 25” Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast/Mid-Ohio Valley Late Model Touring Series opener to next Saturday, April 23.
With hopefully better weather in store for next Saturday, the fifth year for the Northeast Touring Series will get underway at the Middlebourne, West Virginia oval for the first of a record 23 events on tap. Each year the point fund has grown; from its humble beginnings of $10,000 for the top 10 cars in 2007 to over $25,000 in cash and contingencies last season for the top 15 racers. That was all in addition to the new Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series that debuted last year and will continue in 2011 with a minimum of seven events.
It’s been an exciting offseason with lots of big announcements. It began with the signing of the first ever title sponsor in Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC. That was followed up by the announcement of the new “Futures Cup” program for racers 19 and under with less than two years of experience. Then the first ever Bully Dog “Cross the Borders” Speedweek featuring five straight nights of action around the Fourth of July Weekend was released. And most recently the announcements that Utsinger’s Towing has joined Hoosier Tire to present a tire giveaway each and every Touring event as well Original Pizza Logs presenting the “Contingency Connection” and the Canadian National Championship “Travel Package”.
FASTRAK Northeast’s new apparel will debut at Tyler County Speedway next Saturday featuring various t-shirts for men and women, hoodies, sweatshirts, and hats. The inaugural FASTRAK Northeast Fan Guide & Driver Handbook is nearing completion and will be released next month.
Gates will open next Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 7 followed by racing. Pit passes are $26. Adult grandstand admission is $12. Fans arriving between 4:30-5:30 p.m. will receive $2 off adult admission.
Tyler County Speedway is a ¼-mile high-banked dirt oval located at the Tyler County Fairgrounds in Middlebourne, West Virginia. For more information, check out their website at

Racing for Saturday, April 16 at Volunteer Speedway canceled due to inclement weather conditions
BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Following rainfall around the East Tennessee region overnight Friday into early Saturday morning, and with the National Weather Service forecast calling for chance of additional daytime/evening precipitation, due to inclement weather conditions Volunteer Speedway has canceled the racing program scheduled for Saturday, April 16.
"You hate having to cancel a race due to predicted weather conditions, because you just never know how the weather might turn out," said track owner Joe Loven. "Weather's one thing none of us can control, it might rain and it might not. You just listen to what the weather forecasters say. But following the rain overnight and the weather forecast still calling for possibly more rain, it's just best for everybody involved we make the decision to cancel the race early this morning and let everybody know in plenty of time. With fuel prices high like they are today and everybody being affected by it costing more to travel, you just don't want to force fans and race teams into having to make their decision whether to travel to the track when the weather forecast doesn't look favorable.
"Everybody around East Tennessee knows how it's rained overnight and really as a racetrack owner you're placed into a no-win situation. If you don't call the racing program off early in the morning and wait until the afternoon and let people travel to the track and then they find out racing is canceled, then they're mad because of that. And if you call the racing off early and it (weather) clears off, then some will be mad because of that. This is the month of April, and generally it's going to rain in the springtime. It is what it is, you just live with it and hope that next week you get good weather for your racing program."
The next racing action scheduled at Volunteer Speedway will be the "Late Model Showdown @ The Gap" on Saturday, April 23 featuring a $10,000-to-win Ultimate Super Late Model Series event and also a $2,000-to-win show for the Fastrak Racing Series Pro (Crate) Late Models, plus Hobby Stock racing.

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 16) – Saturday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series race at Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa has been canceled.

DART CORN BELT CLASH SEASON OPENER AT ELKO SPEEDWAY CANCELLED
Adverse weather conditions force cancellation of Spring Dirt Nationals
By Tom Lathen
(West Union, IA) This weekend’s scheduled season opener for the Dart Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series has been cancelled.
In a joint announcement made by track officials and series founder and Director Cam Granger, the two day Spring Dirt Nationals at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Friday’s weather forecast for southern Minnesota calls for cool temperatures with high winds and rain showers throughout the day, with Saturday’s forecast calling for morning snow showers followed by unseasonably cool temperatures and high winds throughout the daytime and evening hours.
“You always hate to see your first race of the season cancelled,” noted Granger. “But with the weekend forecast being the way it was, there is no doubt the track did the right thing by making the call to cancel.”
Added Granger, “At this point, it doesn’t appear the Spring Dirt Nationals will be rescheduled. The track will need to remove the dirt from the surface to prepare for their asphalt season opener in a couple of weeks so it is doubtful we will be able to find a reschedule date.”
With the cancellation of the Elko Speedway event, the curtain will now raise on the 2011 CBC season a week from Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota.

Quincy, Illinois
Mother Nature Takes Checkered Flag at Quincy Raceways
Quincy Raceways has been forced to cancel the Heetco Night at the Races for Sunday April 17, 2011. Heavy Rains on Friday along with cool and cloudy temperatures on Saturday with no wind to help dry the track and pit area on Sunday have led to very wet conditions on the track and pit area forcing the cancellation.
Quincy Raceways owners Tony Rhinberger and Paul Holtschlag felt that even if the track could have been dried enough to race, track conditions would have led to a very rough race track that would possibly lead to some very damaged and torn up race cars. Track conditions for the first two nights at Quincy Raceways this season have been good and to have raced today would have led to serious damage to the racing surface as well as the race equipment of our loyal drivers.
Coming up next Sunday April 24 at Quincy Raceways will be Crawdad’s Classic Gourmet Seasonings Night at the Races featuring point’s racing in the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite UMP Modifieds, Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars, KRNQ Pepsi Inside Track Hobby Stocks and the Summy Tire and Auto Center Wild Things. Sunday April 24 will also be the first night of the Q34 Bonus Bucks Points chase at Quincy Raceways for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models. Visit Quincy Raceways online at
www.quincyraceways.com
or call the Track Hotline at 217-224-4100 for more information.
