Terrance Nowell Wins Easter Special At EAMS
By: Justin Rickett Phenix City, AL 04-23-2011 Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway was a special Easter racing program featuring a kids egg toss and a full program of racing action. Drivers from all over the southeast were on hand hoping the Easter bunny would deliver them a win in their basket this year. After a short practice in all divisions it was time for the Alabama Rock Late Models to take time in Extreme Power Sports pole qualifying. Picking up right where he left off, last weeks winner Scott Knowles laid down a blistering lap of 15.04 seconds to take the top spot. Knowles lead the field to the green with Terrance Nowell starting second. On the first lap Nowell used the momentum of the high side to slide by Knowles to take the point and lead the first lap. Montana Dudley ran in the third spot with Paul Walters following close in fourth. The first caution of the night would come on lap 5 when Joey Thomas, Rodgerick Dykes, and Doug Pullen all went for a spin in turn three. All cars continued and the field went back to racing. Nowell was still in the lead with Knowles and Dudley following close. Walters was running a distant fourth with Pat Wall challenging for that spot every lap. As the race went on Nowell’s lead got bigger and Dudley was challenging Knowles for the second spot. The caution would wave with five laps left for debris on the track setting up a shootout for the win. When the green waved Nowell jumped out to a good lead leaving Knowles to hold off a hard charging Dudley. When the white flag waved Nowell had a good lead on Knowles and Dudley. With the checkered flag waving Terrance Nowell picked up his fourth win of the 2011 season. Scott Knowles held off Montana Dudley to pick up second with Dudley third. Paul Walters held on to the fourth spot with Pat Wall coming home in fifth.
In the Limited Sportsman division it was Steven Gains leading the field to the green with Roger Arnett in second. Gaines quickly took a commanding lead and pulled away from the field with Arnett running second. Joey Eiland occupied the third spot with Chris Arnett running fourth. The Race would stay green the entire distance with no one ever mounting a charge on Gaines for the lead. With the checkered flag waving Steven Gaines, Jr. crossed the line first to pick up his fifth win of the 2011 season. Roger Arnett crossed the line in second with Joey Eiland third. Chris Arnett came home fourth with John Capps, III rounding out the top five.
In the ASA Performance Hobby Division it was Jeremy Nevels leading the field to the green with Kevin Bennett starting to his outside in second. On lap one Bennett wasted no time taking the lead moving Nevels to second. Ronnie Hudson was running in the third spot and feeling some pressure form fourth place running Efrem Holbrook. A few laps later Holbrook made him move on Hudson to take the third spot but shortly after completing the pass he was forced into the pits with mechanical issues giving Hudson third and ending his night early. Up front Bennett continued to lead the field with no challenge from Nevels. With the Checkers in the air Kevin Bennett went on to pick up his third win in a row. Jeremy Nevels was second with Ronnie Hudson third, John Michael fourth, and Taylor Renfroe fifth.
In the Bomber division it was Dylan Knowles leading the field to the green with Larry Hodnett lined up second. On lap one Knowles jumped out to the lead with Hodnett and David Osbahr battling for second. Hodnett held the spot with Osbahr doing all he could to take it away. Then with just three laps left Hodnett and Osbahr made contact in turn four sending Hodnett for a spin and Osbahr to the pits with trouble under the hood. When the race went back green Knowles again took a commanding lead and held on to pick up the win. Larry Hodnett finished in second with Lucus Flaitz third, and David Oshbar coming home in fourth.
In the Modified division it was Dustin Elliott leading the field to the green with Herbie Donath starting second. On lap one Donath used the high side to take the lead from Elliott. Chris Storey ran in third with Scott Pines in fourth. The race would go caution free with the top five staying the same. With the Checkers in the air Herbie Donath held off Dustin Elliott to pick up the win. Elliott was second with Chris Storey third, Scott Pines fourth, and Rick Buchanan coming home in fifth.
The Road Warrior drivers were back in action Saturday night this time the duo of Dylan Holmes and Kody Smith had a new competitor in Chase Bruffy joining them. The three cars went at it for several laps with Holmes and Smith making contact in turn two sending Smith for a spin and some contact with the inside wall ending his night. Holmes would lead the rest of the race with no real challenge for newcomer Bruffy. With the checkers flying Dylan Holmes crossed the line first with Chase Bruffy coming home second and Kody Smith finishing third.
Be sure to come out this Saturday night for a full racing program and Driver Autograph night. We hope to see you here!
