Ehrhart Claims First Late Model Victory of the Season at SSP on Saturday Night
Newberrytown, PA (April 30, 2011) – On Saturday night, April 30, Dover’s Justin Ehrhart won the 25-lap Late Model feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. Dan Zechman of Hanover claimed his second straight Street Stock feature event of the season. Thomasville’s Mike Zeigler Jr. claimed the Xtreme Stock Car main event. Daryl Sipe of York Haven won the Mini Van feature and Kurt Welsh from Woodbine, Maryland won the 15-lap non-stop Classic Cars feature.
In Late Model action, polesitter Justin Ehrhart won his heat race and drew “no inversion” for the feature event. His luck continued as he jumped out to early lead over fellow heat race winners Jake Lettich and Mark Billet. Ehrhart led throughout the remainder of the race which consisted of nine cautions for mainly single car spins. Mark Billet continued to pursue but was never really able to find the spot to take the lead. At the end, Ehrhart won, followed by Mark Billet and then his brother, Carl Billet in third. Lettich finished fourth, followed by John Moser Jr. in fifth. Ehrhart completed his perfect night with a back flip from the roof of his racer in victory lane.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature had the front row of Jeff Haag and Marshall McMullen bring the field to the green flag with Haag leading the first circuit. Brett Pickel moved by Haag on the second lap and continued to lead until Dan Zechman took over on lap 10. Pickel continued to pursue in second until he spun on lap 13 in turn one. Pickel was able to return to a top ten finishing position at the end. When Pickel spun, Jimmy Slaseman inherited the runner-up spot and tried to mount a challenge for the win. At the finish, Zechman claimed his second straight victory in as many weeks. Slaseman settled for a strong second, followed by Jim Rost, Bruce McClane and George Eash. Scott Thunberg, Jim Palm Jr. and Dan Zechman were heat race victors.
The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature Davey Nester grabbed the early lead. Polesitter Patrick McClane took the lead away from Nester on the second circuit. McClane led until lap 18 when Mike Zeigler Jr. passed after starting the event in ninth spot. Wampler moved into the runner-up spot on the next lap but was unable to track down Zeigler for the win and settled for second at the end. Zeigler picked up his first SSP victory of the year. Cameron Benyou had another third place finish (his third in three races). McClane settled back to fourth with J.R. Rodriguez finishing fifth at the end. Rodriguez, Zeigler and Wampler were all heat race winners earlier in the night.
The 15-lap Mini Van feature event began had Daryl Sipe lead the entire way to pick up the win over Donny Groft and John Kitner.
In a non-stop 15 lapper for the Classic Cars, found Kurt Welsh leading 14 out of 15 laps to take the victory. Second place went to Bill Brown Sr with Matt Wallace taking third. Wallace led briefly on lap 6 before falling back to third place later in the race. Joe Snodgrass and Jim Crocker finished fourth and fifth respectively. Wallace and Welsh each won their qualifying heat races.
Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midgets, karts, Adult Speedcar and lawnmower racing action.
