Tidwell, McWilliams, Partin, Purdy, and Hawes take opening night Victory

(Peebles, Ohio) The first race of the 2011 season has now been completed. After several weeks of extensive rain, the thunder returned without the rain, kicking off the season with Adams County Schools Night. Tom Partin and his crew got the track together for an exciting night of racing.

Kyle Purdy in the #7 Crazy Compact lead the field to the green with 2010 champion, Rex Smith Jr beside him. After several attempts by Smith, he was not able to claim the lead. Kyle Purdy gets his first win ever in the Compacts. Rex Smith Jr, Chris Strickland, Rusty Hawes, and Brent Smith rounded out the top 5.

This season BMC is awarding UMP points to Modified drivers and a great count of 27 mods showed up for the first UMP race at BMC. Rick Hensley paced the pack to the start of the race with Dave McWilliams by his side. Hensley and McWilliams battled back and forth until Hensley was plagued with mechanical issues and was forced to leave the track. McWilliams looked like he might have it in the bag until a lap car spun sideways in front of him, putting heavy damage on his right side. "Lightning" Dave Jamison pulled up alongside McWilliams for several laps, but in the end Dave McWilliams was able to bring home his first win of the season and the first ever UMP Race at BMC. Following McWilliams across the line were Dave Jamison, Jeremy Berwanger, Dave Pinkerton, and Mike Gross.

Our new Detroit Iron class took the track for the first time saturday with well know BMC drivers like Rusty Hawes racing in it. Hawes was able to bring home the win in the first ever Detroit Iron race. This class is still developing and we encourage anyone looking at getting into racing to check this class out.

Now moving to the Late Model class. Shannon Roese and Arnie Fields made up the front row at the start of the race. At the start, 2010 Late Model Champion Josh Tidwell wasted no time getting to the front and taking charge. Tidwell could not pull the extra distance away from second to feel comfortable, but he still took home the win. Following Tidwell across the line was Arnie Fields, Paul More, Chris Shannon, and Kelly Lippert.

Tom Partin and Matt Nichols lead the Legend car field to the green. 14 year old Steven Partin got beside his father on the first lap, but just a few laps into the race S. Partin's motor gave up the ghost. Tom Partin and Nichols continued to battle it out but they had a new threat in the form of John Gutman. Gutman got by Nichols and was headed for Partin. On the final lap Gutman was able to edge Partin at the line by inches to take his first win in over 18 races. Following Gutman to the finish were Tom Partin, Matt Nichols, Rob Puckett, and Tim McCane.

The 3/10 mile speedplant will be back in action this Saturday May 7th with College Colors Night. Wear your college shirt and get $2 off General Admission, or bring your College ID and get $5 off General Admission (you can not use both discounts). Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Legends, Crazy Compacts, and Detroit Irons will be in action Saturday. Pit Gate Opens at 4 pm with $25 pit admission; General Admission Gate opens at 5 pm and is $12 for adults. Racing starts at 7 pm.
