NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 6 PREVIEWCARTERSVILLE, GA – There will be 14 events at 13 tracks in five states on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 6 schedule of events. The West Region will be busy with eight races, and the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region will have a full slate of six races, including double-features at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action begins with a pair of Friday night races at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR and Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS. Malden Speedway in Malden, MO was scheduled to be in action, but has had to cancel for the second straight week due to flooding.
Saturday night West Region races are scheduled for Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, NEA Speedway in Harrisburg, AR, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.
Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL leads the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS in the West Region standings by just six points. Just 33 points separate the top ten drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings.
Penton Raceway in Penton, AL will open the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 6 competition on Friday night. On Saturday night, NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region events are set for Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, Smoky Mountain Speedway with double-features, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
Talladega, AL drivers hold down the top three spots in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point standings. Jimmy Elkins Jr. leads Adam Gauldin by six points, and Brian Ponder is in the third spot, just two points behind Gauldin.
Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.
A driver’s Regional point total is made up of their best event point total on a weekly basis, plus bonus points earned by perfect attendance at a single track and participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series runs through October 2.
The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
