ELDORA DIRT LATE MODEL DREAM ENTRIES AVAILABLEROSSBURG, OH (May 9) – A check for $100,000 has plenty of power. Just ask Billy Moyer, who picked up that much money last year by virtue of his Dirt Late Model Dream victory at Eldora Speedway. Going into the annual June event, Moyer was entertaining the thought of slowing down and focus more attention on the budding career of his namesake, Billy Moyer, Jr.
However, a methodical victory in the rich event sparked the proverbial fire under Moyer and the momentum gained from the win carried over throughout the summer and into the fall, negating any doubt that maybe the career and limelight for Moyer was dimming. In fact, Moyer, came back to Eldora and walked off with the most cherished prize in all of dirt Late Model racing, the globed trophy signifying a World 100 win.
The Eldora double dip had only been accomplished twice before. Ironically it was Moyer included in that list when he turned the trick in 1998. Two years before that (1996) Donnie Moran became the first driver to win both of Eldora’s crown jewels for Late Models.
The $100,000 prize that signifies a Dream victory has gone to not only the seasoned veterans of the sport, but to many of the younger drivers, which has resulted in National attention for them. Jimmy Mars was the first such driver when he ruled supreme in 1997, and then Darrell Lanigan rode in the spotlight in 2003. Matt Miller (2005) and Steve Casebolt (2007) also credit their Dream wins as milestones towards additional exposure and sponsorship.
The cagey Scott Bloomquist sits atop the Dream win list with five wins, but hasn’t moved into the Dream victory lane since 2008. Freddy Smith began the Dream legacy when the event was introduced in 1994.
This year’s two-day event will be held over the weekend of June 10 & 11, and will conclude with Saturday’s 100-lap chase for $100,000. Entry blanks may be downloaded from the track’s website
