Bloomquist’s Race Toward ‘The Dream’ Has BegunEldora Speedway PR
ROSSBURG, OH (May 18) – For Scott Bloomquist, the race for another $100,000 paycheck has already begun. Within 5 days of the mailing of the entry forms to the race teams for this year’s 17th annual Dirt Late Model Dream, Bloomquist had his form completed and returned to the Eldora offices.
The Mooresburg, TN veteran is hoping to redevelop a rhythm on the famed one-half mile clay oval during the June 10 and 11 chase which features the highest first-place payoff of the season. Going into last year’s chase, he had won on the even-numbered years, dating back to 2002. Billy Moyer brought that trend to a halt with his return to Eldora’s Dream victory lane last June.
For Bloomquist, who finished fifth, it was his 14th appearance in the marquee event, which celebrated 16 years of running in 2010. In those 14 tries, he had collected a total of five $100,000 paydays and a remarkable ten finishes among the top five.
The only driver to have equaled Bloomquist’s number of starting attempts during the Dirt Late Model Dream has been Steve Francis, also with 14 starts. Francis, a former World 100 winner at Eldora, has yet to crack the Dream winner’s circle.
Bloomquist is on a tear thus far into the 2011 racing season, which could bode bad news for the others, but then again, the often tricky Eldora speed plant has been known to be a nemesis to the reputable driver, known within the fraternity as the ‘dirtrax dominator’.
Ironically among the first 5 entries was another former Dream winner – Matt Miller. Miller, who turned Dream trick in 2005, will be seeking redemption after missing the starting line-up in last year’s running that was carried over to Sunday afternoon due to Saturday evening thunderstorms. Miller’s name appears within 7 starting line-ups to date.
Entries were also received from Steve Shaver (7 previous starts), John Blankenship (2 previous starts) and Jeff Wolfenbarger who will be seeking his first starting berth.
The first step towards earning the $100,000 is through the time trial runs on Friday evening (June 10) to determine the starting positions for Saturday’s (June 11) qualifying heat races. Those note making the cut through the heat races will have a second chance during the C & B Main events, with a total of 26 drivers eligible to start the 100 lap grind around Eldora Speedway.
