Justin Reed Takes $1,000-to-Win Special at 24 Raceway in Moberly while Brett Wood Triumphs at CMS in ULMA Memorial Weekend Action

The Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA Late Models participated in their first special event of the year last weekend at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri with $1,000 and double ULMA points on the line for participating drivers!  There were 21 cars on hand at the track with drivers competing in three exciting heat races and the main event with a ULMA newcomer from Quincy, Illinois picking up the victory on Sunday evening.  Jon Binning, Robby Warner, and Justin Reed drove to victories in the preliminary heat races.  Then, later in the night, Reed took his #1st late model to victory lane at the high-banked facility to earn his first-ever Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA win.  Another ULMA newcomer, Jason Perry, came away with a second-place run while Evan and J.D. Hubert ran third and fourth respectively.  ULMA title contenders Tommy Cordray finished fifth and sixth, with Clancy coming from deep in the field to score his finish in the run down.  Robby Warner, Kevin Coyne, Danny Lorton, and Darren Turner rounded out the top ten.  ULMA drivers will return to 24 Raceway one more time this season for a regular point’s race on Sunday, July 24.  Visit the track’s website at www.24racewayinmoberly.com for more information.

Another exciting night of action took place at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway this past Saturday.  In what looked like was going to be a weather cancellation actually turned out to be a very competitive night of racing.  Former modified driver James McMillin was finally able to compete in his new late model as he was one of the 15 competitors on hand.  Drivers earning heat race victories were Jon Binning and Shawn Rayfield.  Binning earned the pole for the feature race with Jason Bodenhamer starting to his outside.  Binning quickly established that he was on a mission by leading a large majority of the race with fourteen straight laps of nail-biting action before a caution flag.  Alan Westling and Bob Test had a scary moment on the backstretch late in the race with both drivers unable to finish the event as Westling’s car got airborne over the back stretch berm.  Once the final green flag laps took place, it was Brett Wood of Warrensburg who had the high line figured out to grab the lead from Binning.  Bodenhamer was in the mix for a while but slipped a couple spots in the closing laps as Wood went on to record a very crowd-pleasing win, his first-ever at CMS.  Binning held on for second with Fulton, Missouri driver Trace Westling recording his best-ever CMS finish in third.  Rayfield ran a strong fourth with Bodenhamer fifth and Chad Clancy, a rookie this season, recording a nice top six finish.  Racing resumes Saturday at CMS, for more information visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Mother Nature won the events at Callaway Raceways in Fulton, Missouri last Friday, where races are scheduled to resume this Friday, check out www.callawayraceways.com.  Grounds were too wet to hold racing last Saturday at Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO; racing resumes at the track this Saturday.  Visit www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com for more info.  Lucas Oil Speedway held a special event last weekend with no ULMA racing.  The track will be closed this Saturday with the next ULMA points-earning event to be held on Saturday, June 11.  Visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com for schedule information.

ULMA is just over a month away from the premiere events on the 2011 schedule as the ULMA Triple Crown Showdown is on the horizon.  Drivers will have five opportunities to earn double points and increased purse money, as well as added special trophies courtesy of Mr. G’s Liquor in California, Missouri, courtesy of gracious businesses.  This exciting stretch of racing centered on the Independence Day holiday week should be an exciting event for participating drivers.  ULMA is seeking businesses wishing to add to the fund, late model or racing fans in general may also kick into the purse with donated purse money to help make this very special week of racing even more meaningful to participating drivers.  During this stretch of racing, ULMA will make its first-ever appearance at Double X Speedway in California, Missouri, this marks the first time in many years that late models will race at the fan-favorite racing venue and will likely be the talk of the town once completed.  Lucas Oil Speedway, Callaway Raceway, Scotland County, and Central Missouri Speedway are also part of the Triple Crown Action.
