Bobby Labonte Racing Just Misses Top-10 on National StageTrinity, NC (May 31, 2011) - Bobby Labonte Racing (BLR) just missed a top-10 finish this weekend during the DART Show-Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. Now BLR prepares for a triple header weekend in Tennessee and Kentucky with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).
This past weekend, with 81 entrants signed in at the DART Show-Me 100, BLR knew they had their work cut out for them. The No. 44 Lucas Oil Dodge of Earl Pearson was placed in the third heat race after qualifying, and battled with eventual heat race winner Brian Birkhofer. The two drivers brought the crowd to their feet as they battled it out for the heat race win in the 20 lap event. Pearson Jr. eventually finished second.
The result gave Pearson Jr. an 11th-place starting position for the feature event. The first-half of the race was marred with cautions, but eventually gave way to a long green flag run after the halfway point. The 100-lap event did not play out as wanted, and Pearson Jr. finished 23rd.
"We had a great car for qualifying and the heat race," said Pearson Jr. "The cards just didn't fall in the main event like we wanted. It was a disappointing race for us."
The No. 41 Red Buck Cigars Chevrolet of Brad Neat began the weekend with a ninth-place finish in the fifth heat race. This placed him in the third B-main with close to 20 other competitors where he finished 12th.
Neat took a LOLMDS points provisional for the feature event giving him a 27th-place starting position. When the green flag was dropped, Neat appeared to be shot out of a cannon as he made his way through the field. When the 100-lap feature came to an end, Neat had advanced all the way to the 12th-place finish passing an outstanding 15 cars.
"We had our work cut out for us tonight," said Neat "But, we had a good setup for the feature. The Red Buck Chevrolet was fast and we just kept coming to the front. I wish we could have grabbed a top-10 on national TV, but the guys did a great job."
Pearson Jr. now sits in the sixth position in points just 15 points behind Mike Marlar in fifth. Neat, with his good run this past weekend, advanced to the eighth position just 10 points behind Dale McDowell and 30 behind his BLR teammate.
BLR is now preparing for a triple header weekend with the LOLMDS. On Thursday, June 2nd, BLR heads to Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway for the Race for Juvenile Diabetes. On Friday, June 3rd, Tazewel (Tenn.) Speedway will host the Toyota of Knoxville 75. Then on Saturday, June 4th, Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky will host the Ralph Latham Memorial. All three events will be $10,000 to win, setting the stage for a possible $30,000 weekend if one driver can win all three nights.
