Cantrell Collects Bounty at Carolina Speedway

GASTONIA, NC – (June 24) Georgia bandit Matt Linder came to town and dominated the USCS Winged Outlaw Sprint Car main event Friday night at Carolina Speedway.

Linder grabbed the point at the start of the main event and kept reining series champion Terry Gray at bay for all 30 laps to post the $2,000 victory. Gray’s teammate Morgan Turpen took third with Cherryville, NC racer Johnny Bridges in fourth.

In the hotly contested NDRA GM Performance main event it was Chester, SC’s Chris Cantrell claiming the bounty of Ron Parker. Cantrell led flag to flag in a spirited 20 lap main event that saw three-wide competition from start to finish. Ross Bailes survived a mid-race tangle with Parker to take second. Parker, Gary Puckett and Michael Brown rounded out the top five.

In the Thunder Sportsman main event it was point leader Bryan Mullis notching another 2011 victory. Kenny Ramsey, Trey Tarlton, Patrick Lyon and Greg Murphy completed the top five.

Stanley, NC’s Manuel Johnson held off a determined Danny Bohn to capture his second straight Open Wheel Modified win. Derrick Ramey, Ryan Ayers and Taylor Cook rounded out the top five.

Frankie McGuire made a late pass of Patrick Lyon pay off as he sped to the Tilley Harley Davidson Renegade victory. Lyon, David Carswell, Ronald Pope and Brandon Davis ran second through fifth.

This Friday night July 1st Carolina Speedway presents the annual NDRA ‘Road Show Firecracker 40’. Top NDRA GM Performance Late Model drivers from all over the Carolina’s are expected. There will also be a huge fireworks show. Kids 11 and under are always FREE. Gates open at 5:00 with racing at 8:00 pm.
