JEFF SMITH GOES-DOWN IN THE GREEN VALLEY CLAIMS $4,000 VICTORYby Steve Hixson
Gadsden, AL (July 3) - As a treat to go along with the 4th of July holiday, Jeff Smith (# 17S) of Villanow, GA and the Team 17 Hill Motorsports (SPANKY's GANG) corralled up a $4,000 payday at Green Valley Speedway. Finding their way to victory lane Sunday night in the Crate Late Model feature the "Josh Roberts Trucking, FK Bearings, Hypercoils, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils, Bilstein, Martin Motorsports, Gene's Racing Parts" sponsored Warrior / RaceTek powered racecar was the easy part as SPANKY lead the entire distance start to finish. It was after the $1,000 to-WIN event, when the VALLEY BOYS and racer Ryan King came calling with a $3,000 engine claim offer. "I didn't really wanna sell my brand new motor, but had no choice, cause in peoples eyes I'd been labelled a cheat" stated Smith Monday in a telephone interview.
The swap took til the early hours of the morning but paid a hefty $3,000. Local racer Elbert McCullough (# 19) of Cedar Bluff, AL was second to Smith with Ryan King (# 30) of Anniston, AL following in third. At presstime official results haven't been posted, but it was estimated to be about a 13-car field. "That was a good win for us and now I've got a NeSmith sealed Crate motor built by Vinson Race Engines" concluded Smith. The team plans on selling the motor and has it priced at $3,500. Smith will be readying for action this coming weekend at Boyd's Friday night where he's currently locked in a tight Track Championship weekly points battle.
