Star Studded Southern Nationals Show Headed for Carolina Speedway July 12

GASTONIA, NC – Carolina Speedway is busy preparing for one of the biggest events of the 2011 racing season as the Ray Cook promoted Shaffer Oil Southern Nationals is set to invade ‘The Action Track’ on Tuesday night July 12th.

The Southern Nationals is a 10 race mini-series that covers five states in 14 days. Carolina Speedway is the only track in North or South Carolina to host an event in 2011 and with a record car count expected It is shaping up to be an event for the ages.

“We are anxiously awaiting the start of the Southern Nationals,” said Carolina Speedway’s Mark Gibbons. “We have had a great year so far and this show has all the makings of something huge.”

Jonathan Davenport is the defending Southern Nationals champion and is no stranger to victory lane at Carolina Speedway. Davenport and his Barry Wright house car are looking forward to the return trip to Carolina.

“It will be good to get back to Carolina,” said Davenport from his Cowpens, SC headquarters. “We have had quite a bit of success there in the past and I can’t wait to get back.”

Drivers from all over the Southeast have signed up for the tour including; Chris Madden from Gaffney, SC, Billy Ogle, Jr from Knoxville, TN, Tommy Kerr from Maryville, TN, Scott Creel from Franklinton, LA, Johnny Pursley from Clover, SC, Ross Bailes from Clover, SC, Donald Bradsher from Burlington, NC, Kennie Compton from Bland, VA, Vic Hill from Sevierville, TN and many others.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series star Austin Dillon and younger Ty Dillon has also confirmed their participation in the event.

Also on the card will be the NDRA Late Models with a $1,000 prize up for grabs. Fan favorite Open Wheel Modiieds, Domino’s Pizza Street Stocks and Tilley Harley Davidson Renegade. Pit gates open at 4:00 PM with grandstand gates opening at 5:00 PM. Racing will start at 8:00 pm. General admission is only $20. For more information please visit www.carolinaspeedway.net
