Sammy Epling Returns to Action with Three Races over a Week span from July 16-22nd Perry, Michigan (July 14) - After not racing for nearly a month, Sammy Epling returned to racing action last Saturday, July 9th in the Wood Tic Tune-up at Merritt Raceway in Merritt, Michigan in preparation for the 23rd annual Wood Tic to be held THIS Friday and Saturday, July 15-16th at the fast ¼ (0.250) mile high-banked dirt oval in Northern Michigan.
After winning his Qualifier Heat, Epling would go on to finish seventh in the UMP Late Models Feature in his first outing back behind the wheel of his own #28 S.J.E. Trucking Pontiac GTO. Prior to Merritt, Epling had not been on the race track since running in “The Dream” at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio back on June 11th. Now with his own equipment and shaking off the rust at Merritt, it’s time to get down to business for the 41-year-old beginning this weekend back up at Merritt for the 24th annual Wood Tic.
“We’re definitely excited to be getting back to racing and definitely excited to be back behind the wheel of my own stuff. Last week at Merritt was a shakedown session to make sure everything was good to go. Now we’re ready for the remainder of the 2011 season.” The Perry Michigan driver stated. “We’re definitely excited to head back up there. The Wood Tic is a great event and we certainly hope to do well.” The 2010 Mt. Pleasant Speedway UMP Late Models Track Champion continued.
“I’m looking forward to finishing out this season strong. After the Wood Tic, we’ll start traveling again with the Sunoco American Late Model Series, plus run some shows at our home track, I-96 Speedway, and we’ll definitely go run the two World of Outlaw Late Models shows here in Michigan.” He added. Those WoO LM events are slated for Friday, August 19th at Winston Motor Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan and then the next night, Saturday, August 20th back up at Merritt.
As for the more immediate future, and after the Wood Tic, Epling and the S.J.E. Motorsports Team will return to I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan on a special Wednesday, July 20th for the I-96 Speedway VS North America Wednesday Night Showdown. Then two days later, the crew will travel down to Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, Michigan for the Sunoco American Late Model Series sanctioned Lane 47 paying $4,700 to the winner.
“I still have two quarter panels open if anyone would like to help out financially and have their name or names on the car.” Epling remarked. “I do have to send out a huge thanks to my sponsors that I still do have as well as to everyone who’s supporting me and our entire teams’ efforts as we move forward. I’m really excited about the remainder of this season.” He ended.
Epling’s #28 Mastersbilt Chassis UMP Late Model does carry sponsorship for the remainder of the 2011 racing season from his own business; S.J.E. Trucking as well as Shift Shop Transmissions, Fusion Graphics, Hedrick Precision Engines, M.P.H. Promotions, SammyEpling.com, and S.J.E. Motorsports.
