NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 16 PREVIEW

CARTERSVILLE, GA – There are nine races on the schedule for Week 16 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. There will be five races in the West Region and four events in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 16 competition will begin with three events on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR with their 40th Anniversary Race, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and Malden Speedway in Malden, MO.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region races are scheduled for Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Week 16 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage East Region action begins on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. Saturday night OMG East Region events are set for Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Five drivers in the Top 10 of point standings in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region will begin netting points, as they have reached their 14th week of competition. Three drivers in the OMG East Region could reach the 14-week mark this weekend.

A driver’s Regional point total consists of their best 14-week point totals, plus up to 100 Regional Bonus Points. Once they reach the 14-week mark, they begin trying to net points by replacing the lowest of their weekly point totals in their 14-week total with a higher one in the remaining weeks of the season.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS leads the West Region standings, and has reached the 14-week mark in his point total of 774 points, which includes all 100 of his Regional Bonus Points. McDuffie will be trying to net points on his lowest weekly point total of 40 points.

A perfect Regional point total is 800 points which represents 14 50-point wins and 100 Regional Bonus Points. McDuffie would have to net another 26 points in the remaining weeks of the 27-week season to post a perfect point total.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 682 points. Frith has one more week to earn full points and can still earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points. Randy Boyd of Marion, MS is third with 677 points and he has reached the 14-week mark. Boyd will be trying to net points off a 25 and he can still earn 25 more Regional Bonus Points.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional Bonus Points are awarded by receiving 25 Regional Bonus points for competing in a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event, or 25 points for every four nights of perfect attendance at a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series track.

Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 673 points, and J-Mac could reach the 14-week mark this weekend and can still earn another 50 Regional Bonus Points. McRee can pick up 25 Regional Bonus Points by competing this Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park, which would be his fourth straight night of perfect attendance.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is fifth in the West Region standings with 665 points, and will begin netting points this week trying to gain on a low 14-week point total of 41. Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is sixth with 660 points and could reach the 14-week mark this weekend. Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS is seventh with 626 points at his 14-week mark, and will be trying to net on a 41.

Tim Dees of Meridian, MS and Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS are tied for the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings. Dees has reached the 14-week mark and will try to net on a 25. Furr could reach the 14-week mark this weekend.

Chandler Petty of Austin, AR rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 622 points. Petty could reach the 14-week mark this weekend.

Talladega, AL drivers Jimmy Elkins Jr. and Adam Gauldin are battling for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point lead. Elkins leads Gauldin by one point, 717 to 716. Both Elkins and Gauldin have earned their 100 Regional Bonus points and each driver could reach the 14-week mark this weekend.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 662 points. Maher could also reach the 14-week mark this weekend, and he can also earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA with 637 points, Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL with 612 points, and Mike Combs of Odenville, AL with 595 points, are fourth through sixth respectively in the OMG East Region standings respectively and all three drivers can earn full points for another two weeks.

Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is seventh with 590 points and can earn full points for another three weeks. Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is eighth with 582 points and has two more weeks to earn full points.

Ken Pate of Pell City, AL with 506 points and Trey White of Jenkinsburg, GA with 504 points are ninth and tenth respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings and both drivers can earn full points for another three weeks.

Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
