Jon Passick scores first IMCA Late Model win at IMS
By Christine Rublack Independence, Iowa (July 16) – Despite the hot temperature a great field of cars was on hand at the Independence Motor Speedway.
Jon Passick scored the IMCA Late Model win. Luke Pestka took the early lead as Bobby Hansen moved into second. Russell Hesse found his way to third as Greg Kastli moved to fourth. Passick used the high line and made his way into the top three. Just a lap later he found himself behind Pestka and then to the top position. Kastli made his way into third using the low groove he found himself the following lap into second. The top three pulled away from the field with Passick having a couple car length advantage over Kastli. With ten to go Passick found his way into lapped traffic as Tyler Bruening made his way around Hansen for the fourth position. Passick powered his way to victory lane. Kastli, Pestka and Bruening followed.
Steve Wiltse scored the IMCA Hobby Stock victory. Wiltse took command on lap two from Jerry Wilson and never looked back. Wiltse began to pull away from the field as Jamie Whitaker hugged the bottom groove and into second. August Bach had made his way into third with a three car battle for fourth on his bumper. Rod Grother had made his way into the top four. The green flagged waved as Chris Wiltse made his way into the top five along with Justin Lichty. Steve Wiltse took home the win, Whitaker, Grother and Chris Wiltse followed.
Vern Jackson scored the IMCA Modified trophy. Jeff Kriz took the lead from the start with Johnathan Thimmesch moving into second. Kriz began to pull away as Ronn Lauritzen and Darin Duffy powered along the high line. Kriz hugged the bottom groove but Lauritzen with the aid of the high line moved into the top position. Thimmesch was in contentions with Duffy but Duffy took over the third position. Just lap after Lauritzen took over the lead a lap car made contact sending Lauritzen and Duffy who was running second to the rear. Upon the restart Jackson took over the lead and checked out from the field. Jerry Luloff quickly found his way into second as he began to put heavy pressure on Jackson. With five to go Jackson had Luloff, Justin O’Brien and Kriz ready to challenge him. Jackson held on for the victory, Luloff, O’Brien and Adam Johnson followed.
Tyler Droste took home the victory in the IMCA SportMods. Brennen Chipp had command early but a push going into the corner allowed Droste to strike low and into the top spot. Droste began to pull away as Lucas Lundry moved into second. Josh Sherbon was on the move as he made his way into the top four behind Jim Aschenbrenner. Droste had a three car battle for second behind him as Sherbon moved into second. Sherbon tried to reel in Droste but Droste held on for the win. Sherbon, Lundry and Aschenbrenner followed.
Dan Trimble made his way to victory lane in the IMCA Stock Cars. Paul Fauser took the early lead as cautions kept the field bunched. Sean Johnson moved into the second position and in no time took over the lead with Austin Evens moving into second. Johnson began to pull away from the field as Evens had pressure from Tim Helle. Johnson appeared to be slowing as he suffered a flat tire. Helle took over the lead as Trimble began to power along the high line. The green flag is when Evens moved into the lead but it didn’t last long as Trimble shot high and into the lead. Trimble scored the victory, Evens, Jarod Weepie and Helle followed.
