Russ Scheffler takes fifth WDLMA feature win of the season

Manitowoc, WI (July 22) - The EWSC Late Models rolled out of the chute led by Tim Buhler and Rick Scheffler with Jim Schmidt and Craig Schueffner on the 2nd row. Rick would jump to the lead from the outside, with Buhler, Schueffner, Schmidt, and Tom Naeyaert the top 5 after the first lap. The drivers quickly sorted themselves out and picked lines, running high, middle and low, challenging each other every lap. Scheffler and Buhler put on a clinic up front, running hard side by side lap after lap, while Russ Scheffler and Ted Dolhun Sr. were moving steadily through the field. At the halfway mark, it was Buhler again out front, followed by Russ, Rick, Schueffner, and Naeyaert. Lap 16 would produce the first caution for Nick Cochart who had looped his car between Turns 3&4. Russ would lead the restart after getting around Buhler on the prior lap, with Rick in third, Schueffner and Naeyaert. Two laps later yellow would fly again for Ron Stroika who looped his car in Turn 2. With 5 to go, Russ held the lead, with the next five cars running so tightly you could toss a blanket over the group as Buhler, Rick, Schueffner, Naeyaert, and Dolhoun Sr. battled side by side. Buhler, Schueffner, and Rick would come to the white flag 3 wide with no one giving any ground diving into the corner. At the checkers it was Russ, Rick, Buhler, Schueffner and Dolhoun Sr. rounding out the top 5 in a spectacular finish. Hard Charger honors would go to Russ picking up 7 spots.
