Ehrhart Flips Over His Late Model Win at SSP on Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (July 30) – On Saturday night, July 30 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, 2011 Late Model point leader Justin Ehrhart of Dover claimed the spotlight for himself this week by winning his fourth win of the year. In victory lane, Ehrhart successfully did his patented backflip off of his racecar. In Street Stock racing action, Hanover’s Dan Zechman picked up win number seven in the Street Stock division. Lancaster’s Donnie Broderick continues to dominate in the Xtreme Stock Car class by winning his fourth consecutive feature of the season. York Haven’s Daryl Sipe won the 10-lap Mini Van feature for the fourth consecutive time this season. Reed Salony of Seven Valleys was victorious in the 20-lap Sidewinder Sprint Car feature event.

The 25-lap Late Model feature event started with Gary Potts grabbing the lead from the pole position. Justin Ehrhart started sixth and set sail on the outside, passing cars one after one. By the third lap, Ehrhart had taken the lead from Potts. Alex Updegraff moved into the runner-up spot on lap 6, but was unable to make a pass for the win and settled for second behind Ehrhart at the end. Carl Billet and Coleby Frye battled back and forth for the third spot during the waning stage of the race with Frye taking the spot over Billet at the end. Gary Potts finished strong in fifth. Heat wins went to Ehrhart, Billet and Gary Potts.

In the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Jeff Haag took the lead from his third place starting spot at the start of the race. Haag set the pace until lap 11 when Dan Zechman moved by Haag to take the top spot. Haag held onto the runner-up spot until lap 15 when he was forced to retire from the race with mechanical issues. Scott Thunberg took over the runner-up spot and waited for Zechman to falter, but that opportunity never came. Zechman took the win over Thunberg with Randy Zechman finishing third after falling out of the top ten early in the race. Doug Bennett finished fourth, followed by Jimmy Slaseman. An extensive post-race technical inspection found all top five competitors abiding by the technical rules. Randy Zechman and Haag were heat race victors.

J.R. Rodriguez took the early lead in the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event until he was forced to the pits on the second circuit for a flat tire. Adam Smith inherited the lead and ran strong until veteran Donnie Broderick took the lead on the thirteenth lap and went on to record his fourth consecutive win. Patrick McClane was involved in an early accident, but returned from the rear to finish second. Ricky Bender finished third, followed by Smith and Rodriguez. Davey Nester and Rodriguez won their heat races.

The Sidewinder Sprint Cars made their first ever appearance to SSP with Seth Kearchner taking the early lead. Kearchner and Saloney battled the entire race, swapping the lead five times. Kearchner led 12 laps with Saloney leading 8 laps, but Saloney led the final and most important lap to thake the victory over Kearchner. Joe Robertson finished third, followed by Mike Kiser and Dennis Hendershot. Zack Overmiller and Kearchner were heat race victors.

The 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature saw Auburn’s Aaron Brommer continue to dominate the class with his fourth consecutive win of the season. Fred Krickbaum was the runner-up followed by Rick Pastor. Cark Bartholomew and Paul Hoffman rounded out the top five. Brommer also won the heat race earlier in the evening.

Daryl Sipe led every lap of the Mini Van feature to claim his fourth consecutive victory of the year. Davey Groff Jr. finished second, followed by Donny Groff, Al Kessock and Jeremy Haines. Daryl Sipe won the heat race.
