Ferree wins first 2011 start at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway

PITTSBURGH, Penn. (August 6) - Alex Ferree, Saxonburg PA, pulled a mild upset in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Model feature Saturday night. Ferree, who has only raced a handful of times this season made his first start of the season at PPMS a winning one, and picked up his first PPMS win since August 14, 2006. Ferree used a pole starting spot to grab the lead at the start and lead all 25 laps of the feature. While Ferree's lead was never huge, he maintained a comfortable lead the entire race and was never seriously challenged. Ben Miley held second the first 8 laps before Mike Johnson took over on a lap 9 restart. At the finish it was Ferree, Johnson, Jared Miley (from 8th), Lynn Geisler (from 12th), Ben Miley, Brandon Burgoon, Mike Davis, Jim Stephans, Jason Rider and John Garvin. The heats saw Lynn Geisler and Mike Davis pick up the victories. Ferree was driving an ex-Gary Lyle #10 which he just purchased.

In the Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Late Models, Beau Glemba, Charleroi PA picked up his second win of 2011. Mike Anderson grabbed the lead at the start and led the first 8 laps and was looking like he might pick up a career first win in the class, but 6th starting Glemba had other ideas and made an outside move to take the lead the next lap. Glemba led the remaining laps to pick up the win. Anderson ran second until a lap 14 restart when he spun. Colton Flinner ran second until the last lap when Nico Dabecco got by for a career best finish. Point leader Flinner was third followed by Rocky Kugel (making his first start of the season), Josh Holtgraver, Tony Sinicrope, Anderson, Ron Hall, Justin Lamb, and Mike Reft. Justin Lamb and Josh Holtgraver picked up the heat wins.

J.E. Stalder, Martins Ferry, OH picked up his second win of the season in the E-Mod Unlimited Challenge 25 lap Special, paying $1000 to win in the Miley RV Service UMP Modifieds. For Stalder it was his biggest win of his career so far. Four time winner Bruce Takach led the first 14 laps with Tom Martineck and Stalder right behind. Stalder was one of the few to take advantage of the open rules, and used a sprint car wing, which seemed to take him a while to get used to the extra down force, but once he did, he was on a rail passing Martineck for second on lap 12 and Takach on lap 15. At the finish it was Stalder, Takach, Martineck, Chris Basich, point leader George Nicola, Jonathan Taylor, Kevin Miller, Rich Curry, invader Joe Gabrielson and Tyler Atkinson. Tom Martineck and Bruce Takach picked up the heat wins.

In the Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadets, McKees Rocks PA's Jake Simmons continued his domination of victory circle picking up his 8th win of 2011 and 41st career PPMS Cadet win. Simmons started 9th and took the lead on lap 5 from Craig Koteles and won going away. Koteles had a strong run in second followed by Nick Kocuba, Pat Weldon, Dave McManus, Josh Langer, Gary Koteles, Jesse Gould and Mike Harris. Jake Simmons also won the heat.

The Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks saw Ricky Steigerwald, Robinson Township PA picked up win #4 of 2011. Steigerwald started 7th and passed early leader Ed Wiser on lap 6 and led the rest of the way. Ian Tomei was second followed by Dan Duseheid, Ed Wiser, Chase Evans, Terry Kerr, Richard Wilson and Hannah Ramsey. Dan Duseheid won the heat.

Bernie Blair Jr. Pittsburgh PA won his third Imperial Heights Garage Young Gun feature of 2011. Blair started first and led the entire distance to win over Zack Stehle, Logan Crewl, Adam Carson, Todd Weldon, Peter Brock and Courtney Chamberlain.

Upcoming at PPMS on August 13, it will be NAPA Auto Parts Night and will feature a complete regular show. Free Grandstand admission with $25 retail purchase between June 1 and August 13 at any NAPA store, and show an original invoice and your ID. On August 20 it will be the 5th Annual UFO vs ULMS Red Miley Rumble, a 44 lap UFO/ULMS Super Late Model Championship paying at least $4053 to win plus a 21 lap Super Sprint Psyclone, paying $2100 to win and a complete regular show featuring the Crates, TSMA Modifieds, Cadets, Hobby Stocks and Young guns.
