NCRA Late Models Head for 8th Annual “King of the Hill” This WeekendDavid Smith Jr
PARK CITY, Kansas (August 8) - It is August and that means only one thing if you are a late model fan in the Midwest, it is “King of the Hill” time. And this year’s eighth annual rendition will once again see the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley’s Racing Products DIRTcar late model series take part at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool, Nebraska this coming Friday and Saturday night in a combined effort with their familiar partners for this event, the Missouri based Lucas Oil Midwest Latemodel Racing Association.
Long-time seasoned late model veteran Joe Kosiski of Omaha, Nebraska leads the Kansas based NCRA into this double header weekend that will see Friday night’s feature winner collect $2000 while Saturday night’s championship feature winner will earn $3000 and “King of the Hill.”
Kosiski, without a single victory thus far in the nine events that have been completed thus far, leads Grand Junction, Colorado’s Dean Moore by 135 points heading into the weekend while Steve Kempt of Shelton, Nebraska, who sits atop the series Great Plains region point standings, sits in the third position, 260 points out of the lead.
It has been a very competitive season thus far for the NCRA DIRTcar late model series as eight different drivers have reached victory lane out of those nine events that have been completed with only Mount Vernon, Iowa’s Chad Simpson a repeat winner.
Drivers who have reached victory lane in 2011 include former two-time series champion Al Purkey, Brandon McCormick, Jesse Stovall, Brady Smith, Jason Utter, Kempt and five-time and defending series champion Kelly Boen, who is not competing full-time in late model action this year.
Boen is the defending “King of the Hill” champion and has won this event four times. Other drivers laying claim to victory in this event include Purkey (’04-‘05) and Terry Phillips (’08).
It all kicks off on Friday night with $2000 being paid to that nights feature finale winner. Pit gates open at 4:00 PM with grandstand gates opening at 5:00 PM.
