Matthees captures WISSOTA Late Model feature win at Deer Creek Speedway

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (August 13) - Mike Sorensen led early in the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Model feature event with Mike Prochnow in second.  Justin Sass and Kyle Jumbeck raced for third.  With one completed Prochnow started to pressure Sorensen for the lead as Jumbeck took over third and Brad Waits moved up to race with Sass for fourth.  Prochnow took over the lead and by lap six had checked out on the field.  Sass had worked back into third as Jumbeck and Waits raced for fourth.  Nine down and Waits, Jumbeck and Lance Matthees were three wide for fourth.  Waits took over fourth and continued past Sass for third as Matthees moved into fourth.  The first caution flew on lap twelve with Prochnow leading on the restart.  Waits and Sorensen made contact as others behind them stacked up on the restart.  Prochnow again led with Waits moving into second and Matthees into third.  With fourteen down Matthees started to challenge Waits for second and then took the spot on lap fifteen while Jumbeck and Waits raced for third.  With twenty complete Matthees took over the top spot and on the next lap Jumbeck followed through into second.  On lap twenty one Matthees and Jumbeck were side by side for the lead while Sorensen moved past Waits for fourth.  Jumbeck lifted the rear of the Matthees machine on lap twenty three and then drove in hard under him going into three but was unable to control his machine bringing out he caution.  On the restart Matthees led with Sorensen and Prochnow racing for second.  Kelly Anderson moved past Waits for fourth as the checkers flew over the speedway.  Heat races were won by Redetzke, Sorensen and Matthees.

Jerry Young led out of turn two for the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with Bill Stettner and Dustin Scott racing for second.  Scott took over second on lap two while Greg Pfeifer Jr. moved into third.  Scott was flying on the high side and as lap three started took over the lead of the race.  A caution with three down saw Pfeifer JR. move into second.  Cody Gardner worked into the top five as Scott started to pull away from the field.  Another caution with eight complete saw Scott leading.  Gardner got shuffled back out of the top five while Young and Pfeifer Jr. raced for second.  Behind them Stettner and Mike Hernke raced for fifth.  Pfeifer Jr. regained control of the second spot on lap eleven.  Gardner challenged Hernke for fifth on lap fourteen but they touched sending Gardner to the infield with a flat.  Jared Boumeester started to challenge Young for third and took the spot as the white flew over the field.  At the finish it was Scott, Pfeifer Jr. and Boumeester in the top three.  Heat race wins went to Pfeifer Jr. and Scott.

The 331 Bar and Grill WISSOTA Street Stocks rand three wide out of turn two at the start of the feature with Troy Voth getting the early lead.  Mike Blowers quickly took over second while Shaun Mann, Danny Hanson and Kory Adams were three wide for third.  Adams held onto third on lap three as Blowers and Voth were side by side for the lead with Adams right there.  Five down and Blowers took over the lead ahead of Voth.  Adams and Mann were side by side for third in their 01 machines with Hanson right behind them.  Hanson dove low and was unable to gain control of the machine as they came out of turn four and collected the wall but was able to keep moving forward.  With nine down now Adams was challenging Voth for the second spot.  Two laps later Mann moved around Adams and now challenged Voth for the second spot while up front Blowers was cruising by himself.  As Voth and Mann raced to the finish for second Adams and Hanson were side by side for the fourth spot. As the checkers flew it was Blowers with the win, Voth second and Mann third.  Adams and Hanson rounded out the top five.  Heat races were won by Hewitt Jr. and Mann.

331 Bar and Grill WISSOTA Street Stocks

Jacob Bleess jumped to the high side early on in the Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modifieds and used momentum to shoot out past Drew Lawson as they exited turn two.  Jake Timm moved into second on lap two with the caution flying on lap three.  On the restart Timm was working low on Bleess for the lead while Brandon Hare and Erik Kanz battled for third.  Behind them Lawson and Shaun Walski raced for fifth.  Eight down and Timm is all over Bleess but suddenly slows in three and four bringing out the caution.  On the restart Bleess again led with Hare and Kanz racing for second.  Kanz took over the second spot and started to challenge Bleess for the lead.  Bleess kept his machine wound up on the top side of the speedway while Kanz selected the middle of the speedway to make his run.    With thirteen down Kanz was finally credited with the lead.  The final caution came out on lap sixteen setting up a green, white, checker dash to the finish.  Bleess moved low on the speedway and started to pressure Kanz up front on the restart but Kanz was too strong in the middle of the track taking home the win over Bleess and Hare.  Walski and Kylie Kath rounded out the top five.  Heat races were won by Hare, Lawson and Parker Hale.

Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modifieds

The US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next with Ryan Siegle taking the early lead.  Chuck Nerland sat in second with Kelly Anderson, Josh Bartel and Ross Dixon racing for third.  On lap two Anderson moved past Nerland for the second spot with Dixon following him through into third.  With four down Dixon and Anderson were side by side for second as a caution flew.  On the restart Siegle led with Dixon taking over second and Anderson in third.  Two laps later Dixon challenged Siegle for the lead and took over the top spot on lap nine.  With twelve down Siegle held off Anderson for the second position.  Another caution waved on lap fourteen and on the restart Anderson threw the kitchen sink and Dixon by powering under him and then just as it looked like he was going to complete the pass for the lead the machine spun around sending him to the back as the caution flew again.  On the restart Dixon led with Siegle in second and Nerland in third.  Josh Bartel moved into fourth with Kevin Hager in fifth.  Tony Bloom took over the fifth spot just as the final caution waved causing another green/white checker dash.  Dixon held on for the win over Siegle, Nerland, Bartel and Bloom.  Heat races were won by Anderson and Dixon.

US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stocks

It was going to be hard to beat that Late Model feature but the NAPA AutoCare USRA Modifieds were up to the challenge.  On the drop of the green Mike Sorensen and Kurt Krauskopf raced for the lead.  Tim Donlinger joined in the fray at the completion of lap one as they went across the line three wide.  Krauskopf took over the point on lap two running up against the wall while Donlinger moved into second.  A caution with six down bunched the field back up and on the restart Krauskopf took off into the lead.  Brandon Davis and Donlinger battled for second with Jason Cummins in fourth.  With ten down Krauskopf lost the lead to Donlinger but regained it on lap eleven as Cummins moved past Davis for third.  Donlinger led lap twelve as the leaders crossed the line side by side.  Donlinger would continue to hold the lead now but Krauskopf was not letting him get away as he held to his outside rear quarter panel around the speedway.  Mark Teske and Dan Bohr had their own battle going for fifth as the leaders now entered traffic.  Cummins used the traffic to his advantage taking over the second spot.  On lap twenty one Donlinger and Cummins crossed the line side by side with Donlinger holding the advantage.  At the finish it was Donlinger with the win.  Cummins, Davis, Bohr and Josh Angst rounded out the top five.
