Carolina Clash Returns to Friendship Motor Speedway August 20thClash PR
ELKIN, N.C.—The stars of the Carolina Clash will be at the Friendship Motor Speedway Saturday Night August 20th for a $4,000 to win 40 lap event. "We are real excited to be returning to Friendship Speedway," said Larry Lee, "Friendship always produces a lot of side by side racing."
This will be the 1st race in the JE Pistons Roush/Yates Performance Parts "Chase for the Championship." Leading the chase heading into Friendship is the #21 car of Luke Roffers. Roffers has a 5 point lead over 2nd place Dennis Franklin. Kenny Compton Jr is in 3rd and only 35 points behind Roffers. Mike Gault in 4th place is 40 points out and Jeff Smith is starting the chase from the 5th place 50 points out from the points leader. Four drivers are tied for the 6th place in the points chase. Chad Paxton, David Taylor, Travis Yow, and Dustin Mitchell are 55 points behind Roffers. Scott Autry starts the chase in the 10th and tied for 11th is Jay Sessoms, Craig Shuffield and Tim Allen. There are 13 drivers in the Chase for the Championship and with 80 points separating them any one of the 13 drivers have a chance to be the 2011 Carolina Clash Champion.
In the Klotz Lubricants Rookie of the Year battle Chad Paxton holds the lead over Travis Yow. Both ROY contenders made the Chase for the Championship but will also have their own battle for the 2011 ROY title. The title comes with a $2500 cash award at the annual Carolina Clash banquet held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway 'Speedway Club.'
The last time the Clash was at Friendship Speedway, Ricky Weeks set the fastest time to earn the front row starting spot and cashed in to take the win. Dennis Franklin finished 2nd and Jeff Smith took 3rd. Previous Carolina Clash winners at Friendship include Ricky Weeks with 3 all time wins at Friendship, Jeff Smith and Ray Tucker both have two previous Clash wins at Friendship, Tim Allen, Mike Duvall, Phil Hall and Ricky Boahn all have 1 Clash victory at Friendship Speedway. Ricky Weeks currently holds the track lap time record with a lap time of 14.740.
Also on the card for Saturday night will be they Chevrolet Crate Late Models paying $1000 to the winner, Basic Finance Limited Sportsman, Elkin Lube Shop 4 Cylinders and Empire Chevrolet/Dodge U-cars. Saturday Evening the gates will open at 4pm with the drivers meeting at 6pm. Hot laps will start directly after the drivers meeting and qualifying /Heat races will start at 7:15pm.
