JERRY GOODWIN CHALLENGE COMING TO TALLADEGA THIS SATURDAY AUGUST 27TH

Eastaboga, AL (August 23) – Talladega Short Track officials are gearing up for the Inaugural running of the “Jerry Goodwin Challenge” coming to the 1/3 mile red clay oval this Saturday Night August 27th.

Jerry passed away in 2010 after battling Cancer. A silent auction will be held, along with drivers going through the stands to raise money to benefit Cancer Research.

In honor of Jerry’s number, the Super Latemodels will battle it out in a thirty-eight lap feature event. The winner of the Super Latemodel feature will walk away with a $2,200 payday.

Whoever sets quick time in the SLM will have an option to draw a number and take the “Jerry Goodwin Challenge.” If they chose to do so, they will then draw a four, six or eight. That driver will then start in that position, and if they win the feature event, they will receive an additional $500 bonus, giving the possibility of a $2,700 payday.

As Jerry would want it, the Super Latemodels are not the only division receiving extra money.

Both the Sportsman and Crate Latemodel divisions will add $500 to the top spot for the feature winner. The Sportsman feature will now pay $1,000 to win this weekend while the Crate Latemodel feature will pay $900 to win. Both divisions will also have the opportunity to take the “Jerry Goodwin Challenge.” The winner of the first heat will have the option and if they win will win an additional $150.

The Open Wheel Modified, Thundercars, Street Stocks and Hot Shots winner will also each receive an additional $100 on top of their winnings.

Gates on Saturday will open at 5PM with the drivers meeting scheduled for 6:30PM. Hotlaps are at 6:45 with racing at 7:30.

Grandstand admission for adults is just $10 with kids 9 and under admitted free. Pit passes are $25.
