Baker picks up second Super Late Model win at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway

PITTSBURGH, Penn. (September 3) - The 22nd Annual Jook George Memorial 50 Lap Feature by Vox Energy for the Brougher's Machine Shop Crate Late Models saw Wexford PA's Mike Pegher Jr. take his third win in the event and third win at PPMS this season. Defending race champ Dan Angelicchio grabbed the lead at the outset of what ended up being the richest Jook's Memorial yet over Max Blair and Kyle Lukon. Pegher, who started 7th, moved into third on lap 3. By lap 9 the leaders caught traffic and Angelicchio, Max Blair and Pegher battled for first, with Pegher coming out on top on lap 11. Blair also moved by Angelicchio on lap 13 and set out after Pegher. The front three remained unchanged for the next 16 laps with Joe Martin moving into fourth over Kyle Lukon. Angelicchio got back around Blair on lap 30 for second. Pegher was on a rail out front while Blair chased Angelicchio with Martin in fourth and newcomer and asphalt star Will Thomas now in fifth. Blair moved back into second on lap 38 after a caution, but Angelicchio got the spot back 40, while Pegher was comfortably out front. Pegher led the remainder of the event unchallenged, followed by Angelicchio, Blair, Martin, Thomas, Kyle Lukon, Steve Beatty, John Volpe, Josh Holtgraver and Laura Lukon. Pegher picked up $2500 for the win. The heats had Mike Pegher Jr., Scott Schempp and Josh Holtgraver, while Dan Angelicchio won the dash for the top 6 qualifiers. Kyle Lukon set the fast time for the 28 cars on hand of 20:613.

In the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Models, Fairmont WV's Steve Baker picked up his second win of the season and 100th all-time career win. Mike Basich and Jason Rider brought the field down for the green. Rider grabbed the lead, followed by Basich and 4th starting Baker. Baker worked his way past Basich and set after Rider. Rider and Baker put on a side by side battle with Baker on the inside (instead of his normal up against the wall line), and worked his way by Rider on lap 11. Once out front Baker opened up a lead, while the battle was for second between Rider, Jim Stephans and Daryl Charlier. Stephans moved into second on lap 13 only to have Rider back in second on lap 14. Stephans moved back into second on lap 16, only to have the caution come out for a slowed Alex Ferree. While Baker moved back in front on the restart, Rider moved past Stephans for second with Charlier still in fourth. On the last lap, last week's winner Michael Davis slowed coming down the front straight, bringing out the caution and causing a green, white, checker finish. On the restart Baker pulled away to grab the win. At the finish it was Baker, Rider, Stephans, Alex Ferree (who charged back after pitting on lap 16), Charlier, Lynn Geisler, Mike Johnson, Mike Davis, Kari Gasser and Norris. The heats saw Lynn Geisler and Mike Davis pick up the wins. Ben Miley rolled his #99 in the first late model heat in a freak wreck with Tom Duratz. Miley was done for the night. Brandon Wearing was leading the second LM heat when he spun and hit the wall between the first and second turns. He was done for the night. Garrett Krummert was running 8th in the feature when he dropped out with a flat on lap 19. Mike Basich dropped out running 6th in the main with overheating problems.

The Miley RV Service UMP Modified Feature had Colerain OH's Bruce Takach pick up his 6th win of the season and add to his point lead. J.E. Stalder grabbed the lead at the start, but it didn't take Takach long to work his way to front from his 10th starting spot. Stalder and Takach had a wheel to wheel battle for several laps before Takach took the lead for good on lap 9. Takach pulled away at that point and won over Jonathan Taylor, Kevin Miller, Chris Basich, Stalder, Clayton Kennedy, Tom Martineck, George Nicola, Joe Betz and Denny Nakutis. Bruce Takach grabbed the heat win as well.

The Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadets had Monongahela PA's Pat Weldon grab his first win of the season. Weldon grabbed the lead on lap one from his 4th starting spot and defeated 10 time winner Jake Simmons to pick up the win. Josh Langer was third followed by David Janas, Robert Betz, Joe Koteles and Nick Kocuba. The heat has Josh Langer pick up the win.

In the Miley BP/Carwash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks Ricky Steigerwald Robinson Township, PA picked up his 5th win of the season and added to his point lead. Steigerwald started on the pole but lost the lead on the first lap to Ian Tomei, but was in front on lap 2 and led the rest of the way. Tomei ended up second followed by Richard Wilson, Hannah Ramsey, Ed Wiser Chase Evans and Steve Hoschar. Ricky Steigerwald also grabbed the heat win.

The Imperial Heights Garage DIRTcar Young Guns saw Coraopolis PA's Alec Broniszewski pick up his first win of the season and second career win. Zack Stehle was second followed by Peter Brock, Todd Weldon, Courtney Chamberlain, Bernie Blair Jr., and Logan Crewl.
