NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR SEPTEMBER 5

CARTERSVILLE, GA – A limited schedule saw a few drivers made moves in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region and Old Man’s Garage East Region after Week 23 competition. Drivers used Regional Bonus Points and full points to reach the 14-week mark of their season to climb up the point standings.

Eligible drivers among the 52-car field in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event on Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS collected 25 Regional Bonus Points.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS continues to lead the West Region standings with 796 points followed by Duke Palasini of Leland, MS in the second spot with 792 points. Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL and Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS each used 25 Regional Bonus Points to move up to third and fourth respectively.

McRee now has 777 points in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings and Arnold has 764 points to hold down the fourth position. Landon Frith of Terry, MS traveled to Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR on Saturday night to net five points after a third-place finish. Frith is fifth in the West Region standings with 763 points.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 762 points, Randy Boyd of Marion, MS is seventh with 753 points, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is eighth with 752 points, and Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS is ninth with 740 points.

Chandler Petty of Austin, AR drove the Whistle Stop Barbeque Rocket to his eighth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway. Petty was able to net ten points and rounds out the Top 10 and final points fund paying spot in the West Region with 731 points.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is just one point outside the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region Top 10, as he used 25 Regional Bonus Points on Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park to bring his best 14-week point total up to 730.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 23 action, Ronnie Cooper of Malden, MO took his second win of the season on Friday night at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO driving the Cooper Racing Special. Travis Ashley of Batesville, AR drove the Bad Boy Mowers GRT to his sixth win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR. Saturday night racing at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS was rained out.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL took his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Elkins was able to net three points to bring his best 14-week point total to 792.

The second-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL finished second to Elkins on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track, netted three points, and stays within six points of Elkins to remain in the title hunt.

Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA finished tenth on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track and earned 41 points in his 14th week of competition. Darda vaulted from seventh to third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings. Darda’s best 14-week point total is now 758.

Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 752 points and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is fifth with 741 points. Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA is sixth with 738 points and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is seventh with 737 points. Ogletree can still earn 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Ryan King of Anniston, AL is eighth with 715 points and Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is ninth with 689 points. Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 682 points.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR picked up their 52nd win of the season from Ashley to hold a three victory lead over the defending and two-time time NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Chassis Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL with 49 wins this season.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 16 points after a Week 23 win from Petty. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.

Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
