Gumbo Nationals New Payout & Exciting Format Announced

by Ben Shelton
Greenville, Mississippi (09/13/11) – With a new look, a new format, and a new payout anticipation is building for the 5th Annual Gumbo Nationals, which will be held November 3rd-5th at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi).

Over the past several years Wesley Washington and James Clolinger have worked diligently to transform Greenville Speedway into a showplace for racing in the area. Their hard work has resulted in some of the best racing in the region during the past few years. In an effort to further elevate the status of the facility and the Gumbo Nationals the staff is excited to announce that this year's edition of the event will feature the richest Super Late Model payout ever at the 1/4 mile oval, with a total purse boasting over $33,000 for the Super Late Model division alone with the PRO Dirt Car Series sanctioning the event.

On Thursday, November 3rd an Open Practice Session will be held. Friday, November 4th will see group qualifying as well as heat race action contested. Saturday night, November 5th will be headlined by a pair of b-main events, a last chance qualifier, and the 70 lap finale. Following the twin b-mains, there will be a last chance qualifier where the first six cars, who didn't transfer from the b-mains to the feature will go to war in a 12 lap event, where the top two cars will move on to the feature, while the other ten finishers receive some extra cash.

This new format is devised to give the racers more chances to get into the show, a chance for more drivers to take home money, and to give the fans more bang for their buck.

With the revised purse many of the top competitors from the southeast and even some national drivers are setting their sights on the event. Drivers already indicating their intent to try and tame that weekend include Bub McCool, Chris Wall, Jack Sullivan, David Breazeale, Ray Moore, Rodney Wing, Chad Thrash, Klint Byars, Mike Palasini Jr., Ross Camponovo, Jamie Elam, Dane Dacus, Morgan Bagley, Jon Mitchell, Gary Christian, Greg Fore, Rick Rickman, Brian Rickman, Eric Cooley, Kyle Beard, and more!
