Mumaw, Markham, Adkins and Gardner come home victorious at WCS

by Ryan Pearson
Orrville, Ohio (September 17) The action was bad fast at Wayne County Speedway Saturday night September 17th with nearly 100 race cars packed the pits.

In the 410 Winged Sprints Danny Mumaw jumped out early to lead over Andrew Palker, Bryce Dickson, Bob Lime and Beau Stewart. In the early stages Mumaw stretched his lead and began to get into lapped traffic on lap five. On lap six Dickson slipped past Palker for second place and set his sights on the leader. Mumaw made short order of the lapped cars as Dickson tried to close the gap. Thirteenth starting Dan Kuriger made things exciting as he ran against the cushion and worked his way into the top five. As the checkered flag flew Butch Beasley’s sprint car caught fire and came to rest on the front stretch. Taking his third win of the year was Mumaw. He was followed by Dickson, Palker, Kuriger, Lime and Stewart. Winning heat races were Aaron Shaffer, Mumaw and Dickson. Jason Dolick won the B-Main. “The car was good tonight, my dad had the car perfect. It was a lot of fun” stated Mumaw after the win.

In the Super Late Models Ryan Markham blasted to the lead at the drop of the green flag as Dave Hornikle, Mark Banal, Charlie Duncan and J.R. Gentry tried to chase him down. Markham lead was erased with a lap 10 caution as David Liles, Scotty Peltz, Larry Bellman and Don Conley were piled up in turn three. The green flag dropped Markham again pulled out to a comfortable lead but the racing for third place couldn’t have been better. Lap eight Hornikle held third but Duncan and George Lee both were plastered to his bumper. Lap nine saw Cory Conley join the fray making it a four car battle for third. Duncan slipped past Hornikle and tried to chase down Markham. Conley made a late race surge and blasted past Banal on the outside to snag third place. Taking his second win was Markham he was followed by Duncan, Conley, Banal and Lee. Gentry, Conley and Liles won heat races. DJ Cline won the B-Main.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks pole sitter Brandon Gardner powered to the lead over Tory Gibbs, Jeremy Dickerson, Steve White and Justin Patterson. The caution flew on lap three for second place running Gibbs who spun. On lap five Gardner still lead but Patterson, Dickerson and White attempted to close the gap on the leader. Gardner held the lead through several cautions to take the win over Patterson, White, Dave Haven Jr. and Dickerson. Winning heat races were White, T. Gibbs and Patterson.

In the Mini Stock division it was old veteran Jerry Adkins who jumped out to the lead ahead of Dustin Daugherty, Gary Hensel Jr., Chase Alexander and Jeff Rose. As Adkins held the lead Alexander slipped past Hesel Jr. and set his sights on Adkins. On lap six Alexander pulled under Adkins trying to take the lead but Adkins keep his cool and held him off. Alexander again applied heavy pressure on Adkins but Adkins still held the lead. The tight racing up front allowed Hensel Jr. to join the fray for the lead. As the checkered flag flew it was Adkins coming home victorious. He was followed by Alexander, Hensel Jr. Kyle Moore and Daugherty. Hensel Jr. won the heat race.
