Stretch Run Begins - Cornhusker Classic This Weekend

MLRA PR
Buckner, MO (September 21) - With last weekend's rainout at the Springfield Raceway the Lucas Oil MLRA has sat idle the past few weekends. Well that's about to change as the series hits the stretch run. With races scheduled each of the next four weekends, it's about to get busy. This Friday and Saturday will mark the final visit of the season to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. The Cornhusker Classic will pay the winner $2,000 on Friday and $3,000 on Saturday.

Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck currently sits 3rd in points and won this race last year."We flew Swartz Race Cars builder Audie Swartz in last season to help us and we're doing the same this season. We hope the success from last year's race will carry over to this year." Excluding the Silver Dollar Nationals where he had engine trouble, Berck has finished 2nd twice and 5th once in Lucas Oil MLRA competition this season at the Greenwood oval. "It's my home track and favorite track. We switched engines. We'll be running our Chevy. It's the same one we won with last season. This is a major weekend for us. We've always ran well in the Cornhusker."

There will be more than Lucas Oil MLRA action for Berck however. He will be taking part in qualifying for a $4,000 to win modified race, which will take place on Sunday at the speedway.

If Kyle is to repeat, it will be no small task. The Dart Corn Belt Clash series will be on hand, with their top drivers making a run for the win. Al Purkey, series point leader, has a new Hatfield Racing Engine he will be debuting, and John Anderson is coming off back to back wins. With only 30 points separating Purkey and Anderson the championship battle has all the makings of a good one.

The 2011 Cornhusker Classic will once again feature a variety of classes. The 3 day event to be held September 23 thru 25 at I-80 Speedway will pay out a purse of more than $80,000. Because of some late season schedule changes the Cornhusker Classic will feature a complete late model touring series program each of the three nights. Racing starts on Friday, September 23. It will also feature a complete super late model program co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA and Dart Corn Belt Clash. Racing will start at 7 pm with Grandstand Admission for Adults $20. Juniors (6-15) $5 and Kids 5 and under free. On Saturday, September 24 there will be another complete Lucas Oil MLRA and Dart CBC show. Racing will start at 6 pm. Grandstand Admission will once again be $20 for Adults, $5 for Juniors with 5 and under free. Sunday night, the support divisions will run feature events, highlighted by a 40 lap $4,000 to win Modified race. The SLMR Late Models will also contest their season finale.

I-80 Speedway is located off Interstate 80 at exit 420, halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. The 4/10th mile dirt track is home to the NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) on Sunday nights, and host several specials featuring touring late model and sprint car series.
