DREW COUNTY SPEEDWAY SIGNS ON FOR THE 2012 NeSMITH CHEVROLET WRS SEASON

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR has signed on for its second straight season with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series in 2012. Drew County Speedway was the site of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship event during the second to last week of the 2011 season.

Title contenders Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS and Duke Palasini of Leland, MS made the trip to Drew County Speedway where Palasini needed a win to tie McDuffie for the point lead and force the championship to be decided the last week of the season. Palasini lost the lead with two laps to go to his cousin John Polasini of Leland, MS giving McDuffie his second championship.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competitors at Drew County Speedway will compete for both a track point fund and a National point fund that will pay $10,000 to the Champion and pay back through the Top 10 point positions.

“With their first year of being a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series under their belt, Drew County Speedway showed a lot of improvement during the course of the season both on and off the track,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “I got calls every week from someone who had been there for the first time telling me what a great facility it is.”

Helm said he thinks the best days for Drew County Speedway are still to come and he hopes the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will play role in the growth of the track.

“Their car count grew each week, and we think there are even bigger things ahead for Drew County Speedway Promoter Bill Horn, his staff, and the track competitors,” Helm said. “They all have a facility they can be proud of and we’re looking to working with them all again in 2012 and help them get the word out about the fine facilities and race track at Drew County Speedway.”

Drivers at Drew County Speedway will compete against drivers at other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks through the country each weekend during a 27-week season from April 6, 2012 through October 7, 2012 through a points system. A competitor’s best 14 weekly point totals will count towards their National point total.

Drivers can compete in multiple races each week with their highest single event point total counting for that week. A driver can also earn up to 100 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points that will be added to their best 14 week point total. A driver can earn as much as 800 points that represents 14 50-point wins and 100 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points.

Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points can be earned in two different ways. A driver can earn 25 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points by competing in four straight events at a single track. A driver can also earn 25 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points by competing in a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event during the Weekly Racing Series season.
