Super 6 Monster Mania at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway had Keith Barbara, Ed Lynch Jr., Dave Murdick, Wayne Robinson, Carmen Perigo and Jake Simmons pick up wins
PITTSBURGH, Penn. (October 15) - In the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Late Models, Pittsburgher winner South Park PA's Keith Barbara picked up his second win of the season. Barbara started 8th and took over the lead on lap 5 and romped to the win. Ben Miley led the first two laps before Tommy Beck took over and led laps 3 and 4. Alex Ferree was a strong second followed by Dennis Lunger, Garrett Krummert, Jim Lepro, Beck, Ben Miley, Jayme Beck and Tim Gould. Dennis Lunger and Keith Barbara won the heats.
The Super Sprints saw Ed Lynch Jr. Apollo PA pick up his third win of the season. Lynch who started 12th used a late race yellow to his advantage to move on the rear of leader Danny Holtgraver, then made his move on lap 20 to lead the last two laps to grab the win. Holtgraver started 11th and got thru traffic first and passed early leader Brandon Spithaler on lap 13. Spithaler got a flat while running second and had to pit, and returned to finish 11th. At the line it was Lynch Jr. Holtgraver, Mike Wagner, Eric Williams, Pete Miller III, Bob Howard, Travis Philo, Daryl Stimerling, Joey Hershey and Brent Matus. Ed Lynch Jr. and Danny Holtgraver won the heats. Lynch set a new track record in his heat of 15.697. Andre Layfield took a nasty flip in his heat and did not start the main.
The Big Block Modifieds had Dave Murdick Slippery Rock PA, win his first feature at PPMS since June 25, 1988. Murdick took the lead from Brad Rapp on lap 8 and weathered several restarts and held off Kevin Bolland to pick up the win. At the checker it was Murdick, Bolland, Jeremiah Shingledecker (who charged from 13th), Rapp, Steve Feder, Mike Turner, Carl Murdick, Dean Pearson, Kevin Green, and Randy Chronister. The heats went to Kevin Bolland and Dave Murdick.
In the Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Lates, newcomer Wayne Robinson, Corning, NY picked up the win. In a wild race that saw Bryan Hoffman flip his car on the backstraight and totally destroy his #15, had several newcomers run up front. Hoffman led the first lap, with 2011 track champ Colton Flinner leading the next 3. Newcomer, Bob Diver took over on lap 5. Diver led until lap 10 when Robinson took over on lap 11. Hoffman's flip happened on lap 16, as it appeared a driveshaft broke and dug in the track. Then on the restart Diver spun and collected several cars. All were able to continue except Diver, ending his solid run. Robinson led the rest of the way to win over another newcomer Bryce Davis, Mike Reft, Flinner, Justin Lamb, Tom Klein, Dustin Curry, Mike Anderson, Tom Bateman, and Brian Schempp. Wayne Robinson also won his heat as did Justin Lamb.
The Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadets McKees Rocks PA's Jake Simmons win his 13th feature of 2011 breaking Rich Apolito's long standing record of 12 wins in a season. Joey Koteles grabbed the lead at the start from third, and led until lap 5 when 9th starting Simmons took over. After that Simmons pulled away to win over Koteles in his best run of the season, Nick Kocuba, newcomer Joe Kelly, Bill Robertson, (in the Josh Langer #11), Mike Harris, Dave Janas, and Jarrod Westover. Jake Simmons and Nick Kocuba took the heat wins.
The Miley RV Service UMP E-Mods Carmen Perigo Jr. Stoystown, PA in a car that has been only raced once this season (the week before), grabbed his first ever win at PPMS. Being in the lead was not the place to be for a several drivers. Carl McKinney led the first lap, but was replaced by Evan Taylor on lap 2. Taylor led the next 4 laps before Daryl Charlier (making his first E-Mod start of the season) took over. Charlier led the next three laps, but his car began to smoke, and he slowed to bring out the caution on lap 10. On the restart, Jonathan Taylor outgunned brother Evan to take the lead, but that only lasted 1 lap when he slowed with mechanical problems. Evan Taylor was back out front at this point, and led until lap 13, when Perigo made his move on the outside and to take the win. At the finish it was Perigo, Evan Taylor, Carl McKinney, Tom Martineck, Vince Laboon, Bruce Driestadt, Jeff Haefke, Jonathon Taylor, Charlier, and Darren Tarabori. The heats had Jonathan Taylor and Tom Martineck grab wins.
This was the final event of the 2011 season.
