Ivey claims $5,000 Southern All Stars victory at Waycross
Waycross, GA (9/17/11) Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, FL rolled to a $5,000 payday at Waycross Motor Speedway on Saturday night before a great crowd on hand at the Southeastern Georgia Speed Plant.
After swapping the top qualifying spot with Gray, Georgia's Jordy Nipper during the two-at-a-time qualifying format, Ivey notched the pole position while Nipper notched second to set up a side-by-side front row start for the two young dirt late model pilots.
In the main event, Ivey was able to put distance between himself and the rest of the field during long green runs until lapped traffic began to play a factor and allowed Nipper to pull up to Ivey's back bumber. He took a few looks to the inside but was never able to complete the pass.
This battle waged throughout the 50-lap affair until two laps to go when Nipper fell from contention with a flat tire. Ivey then walked away with a half straight-a-way's distance on second place finisher Ivedent Lloyd of Ocala, FL.
The Southern All Stars points battle continues to tighten as Billy Ogle Jr. finished one spot ahead of current points leader William Thomas of Phenix City, Alabama as the two SAS regulars finished third and fourth respectively. Russell Brown of Valdosta, GA rounded out the top five.
Results pending Tire Tests: 15 Entries representing five states: GA, TN, FL, AL, NC
