2011 Possum Town Grand Prix Canceled

Columbus, Mississippi (11/08/11) – The 2011 edition of the Possum Town Grand Prix, which was slated to be held at Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on November 24th-26th has been canceled. Several factors led to the cancellation of the event, which has been a Thanksgiving weekend staple over the past several years. Over the past few years, however, a few different factors have led to the race becoming more of a liability than a logistically, feasible event. A much longer race season now sees competitors compete right up until the event, and in years past most competitors and fans from throughout the area would have at least a month away from racing by the time the event got underway. This has led to a decline in attendance in the stands and pits over the past three years. In addition, an early season rainout of a NeSmith Late Model Series this season, led to the rescheduling of it on Sunday, November 20th, and given this along with the other factors it didn't make sense to run back-to-back late season events.

As a result, the final event of the 2011 season for the Columbus Racing Alliance will be the $2,000-to-win, NeSmith Late Model Series event on Sunday, November 20th at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi). Also, on the card will be Super Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks. Sunday, November 20th the pit gate opens at 12pm with the grandstand gates opening at 1pm. The driver's meeting is slated for 2:00pm with racing action to follow. Grandstand Admission is $15.00 for adults with kids 10 and under admitted FREE. Pit Admission is $30.00. Come Tailgate Track Side in any unreserved spot for an additional $10.00. In addition, the special race-ready, Street Stock that is being raffled to benefit Ross Tingle will be given away on Sunday, November 20th at Magnolia Motor Speedway, and if the winner is present he or she will have the option to start at the back of the Street Stock feature.
